Hi everyone. I'm new to the site. The other day my 02 quit starting. When I turn the key only the lights and accessories come on. Security light flashes. Tried replacing the starter relay and got a new key. Neither worked. Any other suggestions?

What have you done to the car lately? My guess would be the starter motor itself has given up. Is the car standard or automatic? If it's standard try to push start the car and see if she fires up.

It's an auto. Haven't done anything to it lately but replaced the oil pressure sensor.

It will most likely be your starter motor gone bad.

Before you spend any real money, try swapping the relays under the hood and see if it starts. Swap the fan and ignition relays. If it starts, replace the bad one. If it doesn't, swap a few more in there. If it still doesn't start, then you can look at the starter or elsewhere.

I had the same problem on my '98. Very intermittent no-start issues... Sometimes it would, other times it wouldn't. Ended up replacing the ignition relays under the hood, haven't had an issue since.

And then when that doesn't work, go buy a new starter which is what you need. Also, take a chill pill and stop trying to get into a pissing contest with someone over the internet.

So, you're suggesting to the op to spend $150-$200 on a starter that he won't need and spend an hour of his time changing it out, rather than spend a few seconds in diagnosis swapping the ignition relay? And you can be 100% sure, from behind your keyboard, that he needs this $200 starter? You're ******* brilliant. Good damned thing I didn't talk to you when I had the same issue.

So do this. My 01 ss started lagging upon start up out until one day it never started. I thought it was the starter or alternator. It actually ended up being the battery. Try diagnosing that and the relays under your hood first before spending too much money

try turning the key farther when cranking

my 99 has been having issues in cooler weather , when i turn the key on everything comes on , then if i try to start it nothing , unless i turn it a little farther , or wait a few seconds longer , my thinking is the ign switch lower on the column is starting to go on mine

other would be to test the starter signal wire and see if it shows power when trying to crank it , and work back to the key if there is no power

I have had the same issue on my '02 SS. One day I tried to start and security light and gauges were going crazy. No start. Key fob didn't unlock or lock doors. Took battery to AZ and said it was dead. New battery and car started right up.

Few weeks later, same issue. Checked battery connection. Nothing. Pulled battery and put in another vehicle and other vehicle started. Took battery from other vehicle and put in SS and SS started. WTF.............Loose connection maybe? Who knows.
