Default Story and build of my $300 Thirdgen (aka 4th gen in disguise)

Alright july of last year after forcibly having to sell my second 86 camaro(first iroc) due to overheating issues as well as somebody deciding to break into it... I came across this 86 called up the owner said it had been sitting for 4 years.. thinking it was a rust bucket decided to take a look well body straight and absolutely no rust she was mine for $300

From there I decided this will be the build ive always wanted artic white with a ls motor, 6 speed and all the nice amenities of a newer camaro so out came the cracked dash and the center console

And in went the 95 dash(with a nice badge added to it)

Then came the first Issue, the good old hatch alignment basically dont try to adjust the hinges on the hatch with a hammer
New hatch and moving on 4th gen leather seats wow the difference of how comfortable they are is crazy

Previous owner started shaving firewall so I finished it(wont stay shaved)

Next came shaving the emblems on the outside

Second issue quarter panel was replaced and body work wasnt finished where the patch was welded in so finish it up well now it needs primer in a lot of places so reprimed the car

Car now had pretty complete interior minus door panels well found some that flowed well with the dash

Oh and some pics of the other things smoothed

First real amenity of the car temp/comp mirror

Second stereo system pass side kick panel

Then came the first month of 2013 moved out of my parents and into my first apartment and finally have a garage

Third amenity lighting as most know the hatch light is pretty dark so leds on the strut keep it pretty well lit and no you can not see the wiring

Also if youve ever seen the engine bay of a thirdgen youve seen the discolored bulky overflow tanks so using a 4th gen coolant tank fits under the battery very awesome

Just because i found it cheap line lock solenoid came with a booster and master $50

Time to clean up the wiring

Bought some awesome gauges for it as well as cleaned, dyed, and armored the dash

More engine bay work seams welded and filled and painted

Before: I thought I wanted it flat black

After: Looks so much better

Pics of how it looked completed

Had to fix a new dent.....

Then came suspension Custom double adj. panhard bar and undercoating

Then came a huge update found this 5.3 with 92xxx miles on it for $335!!! and man it is clean

Grille needed freshened up the blue is the same that I used on the panhard

Then I bought a 08 nissan maxima started to take note of the little things that made it so nice to have under door lights were one of them

Throughout the build ive been pretty ocd on everything down to every nut and bolt replacing ones that are to far gone as well as freshening up old ones and the valve cover color and yes those are carbon fiber coil packs

I believe this is the 4th amenity turn signals in the mirror not sure if theyll stay may try something else not sure yet

Then comes my rethinking of some of the things ive done and problems I forseen for one getting the lt1 gauges to work with the ls1.... yes it can be done but the 98-02 dash began to grow on me out went the 95 stuff and off came the door panels in went the 4th gen panels(still working on finding the dash and console)

Second issue getting the wiring to work well wouldnt it be just so much simpler to know where a complete one is so, ditched the entire harness and will be using a 4th gen harness and steering column heres where the 5th 6th amenities come in auto lights steering wheel controls for the radio ease of getting everything to work and worrying where did I cross a wire blah blah blah....
Well money got tight car put on stands and rims sold cant seem to find any Iroc rims and eventually want to run c5 or c6 rims came across some 98 camaro rims bought spacers and the cars back on the ground

7th? amenity, bay lighting got what I was after

And this brings us to present day so far in it for about a thousand bucks after selling and trading both parts and labor for stuff and looking at around another 10 to have it complete and having the power I want

now that is great car! id love to start a project like this. 2nd and 3rd gens are really growing on me, if i found one like that for the price i think id have to jump on it! i can see this build going somewhere really awesome, just imo i would forget the turn signals on the mirrors. if you really want some turn signals in the mirrors then use some LED strips and mold them around the mirror or something. i cant wait to see some updates to this!

Hey thanks man and yea Ive been unsure of them as well been thinking about led strips or putting a bulb behind the mirror glass complete stealth mode and would shine out around the bottom corner but not sure of what been so busy with the door panels and finding all the other parts I need as well as finding time to do work on it

Well red arrows are off the mirrors, door handles are installed and working great. Oh and forgot to mention the car has a keyless entry system even after pulling tugging and pushing the rod around it still functions oddly better than before. Next weekend im going to see about getting a wiring harness for the entire car if not then getting a dash

Are the door panels and dash a bolr in from a 4 th gen to a 3rd gen?
Is the LS engine a direct bolt into a 3rd gen?

Panels definitely not bolt in a lot of modification to get them to work dash is some what bolt in if your ditching ac and heat which will not be as I'm going to use a 4th gen HVAC system ls1 uses motor mount adapters, custom wiring harness, notching K member for ac compressor, gas tank swap lot of work has gone into this and still have quite a bit to go
