hey ppls last year my dad gave me an 93 z28. its my everyday car(work school home) when we got the car it had an oil leak come to find out a year later its coming from the intake at the back. now it has 168 thousand plus miles an runs strong but when goin up hills the shakes and rev up and down but other than runs like an horse. so now after racing a 500hp 2000 ss camaro an a 2013 5.0 mustang i want to do more than just keep up. should i rebuild it or just fix the oil leak? any good info will help

First of all you are not keeping up with a 500hp Camaro SS unless you already have some major work done to your car. A 93 Z28 is a low 14 second/high 13 second car. A stock 2000 Camaro SS is a low 13 second/ high 12 second car. I would fix the oil leak and add a supercharger/turbo setup. Or you could pull it out and build it. I was in the same boat as you except mine had 222,000 miles. I decided to go with a LS based motor due to them having a more reliable ignition setup and having newer technology. Also I have noticed that they seem to be easier to wrench on. Anyway you look at it you are talking about $.

Here are your options...

1. Keep it, fix it, and use it as your DD.
2. Buy another car.

I would go with 2 if you are wanting to keep up with a "500 HP camaro".

Idk how the ppl before me took care of the motor so would heads an a cam be too much to start with? Rebuilding it wat is best 383 or factory or 396. By keeping up means I lost but not by an whole lot like other cars I've seen

Oil leak is probably a combination of intake gaskets and or oil pressure sending unit.
Misfire is time for a new opti plugs and wires.
Thump could be posi locking if it hasn't been serviced in forever and is time for a oil change or it could be control arm bushing or rear sway bar bushing bad and something is shifting around.

3 give up a LT1 is a great engine and makes good power but LS and coyote 5.0's will stomp it's ***.

Might get better responses in the LT1 performance section.

1. What is your goal? Power, acceleration, cornering?
2. What is your budget?
3. Are you planning on doing the work yourself? These cars are great to learn on.
4. What is your budget?

You car is capable of keeping up with a 500hp SS, the only limiting factor is the size of your wallet and your creativity.
