im thinking maybe a test bed for whatever line up of new engines the new camaro will have, ie the turbo v6, to then launch as crate engines...? yes turbo's are coming everywhere, even on ferrari's design desk.

From a powertrain testing perspective it's genius. Hide it in plain sight drive hell out of it and drive it anywhere you want doing validation testing on it and no one would be none the wiser.

And a relatively large engine bay to squeeze whatever you'd like to in it.

Not to mention, these cars are not plagued with a ton of electronics tied into the chassis and such so they could be using them to test full standalone harness for JUST engine testing. That would give them an awesome opportunity to kill two birds. It would be awesome if they are taking the new v-6 and doing some work on it. Those engine will be everywhere soon and i have a 2000 Jimmy with a tired 4.3.

Ford did the same thing while testing the Coyote motor. They put a prototype drivetrain in a mid-90's model f-150 and drove it around for a couple of years completely undetected. Once they felt confident in the new platform, they began putting them into the prodcution models.
