Default Tune Up Suggestions for 99 ss

I bought a a4 99 Ss convertible Camaro a few days ago, i'm looking to do a Full tuneup, I was wondering what plugs, oil, wires' etc, to go with, or wich ones to stay away. Ive read a lot of other threads on this topic but they were all about 5 or 6 years old, so that's why I made my own, maybe there's new and better sparks plugs, etc, thanks for the help it's much appreciated

I like: NGK TR55 plugs, MSD wires, Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30 oil with a quality oil filter such as Purolator PureONE or WIX.. K&N air filter if you're looking to put money into it otherwise just a regular replacement one if its dirty... run some Techron fuel system cleaner through there to get the fuel system and injectors cleaned out. Maybe grab a PCV valve while you're at it.. literally like $3 and very easy/important to change.

Advance or Autozone has the plugs, and oil filter and techron, get the wires online on either ebay or ws6store.com or wherever, get the oil at walmart (it's cheapest) and it takes 5.5-6 quarts.

Thanks, Just changed it and went with the Castrol Edge with TI 5w30 and a Mobil 1 filter. I bought Mobil 1 0w40 but chickened out and went with the Castrol.

I found out on BITOG that the Mobil is in fact a thinner 40 and that it should be no problem in the LS1 so I'll keep what I have and use it next time.

As long as you get at least OEM spec stuff you should have a good running car. Props to you for doing a full tune up as soon as you got it, so many people just roll the dice on when stuff was done last. I'd recommend you do all the fluids as well, good time to check for leaks, pressure test your cooling system and a quick compression test while your plugs are out. Then just enjoy the heck out of the car!

I was going to go with Mobile1 also that's what I run in all my cars. And thanks I found a vacuum leak earlier today, what should compression be around?

I run the Mobil 0w40 and i like it. Car seems to run a little quieter with it over 5w30. I would change the rear diff fluid and don't forget about the transmission fluid as well. A Coolant flush is very simple on these cars too.

If you are an enterprising young lad with decent tools and skills you could add some new U-Joints to the list. U Joint, high strength: ACDelco Part # 45U0136 . Rockauto.com is your friend with this kind of stuff.

How 'bout adding a deep trans pan? Either way, treat that A4 nice and get some nice Dexron VI in there. Old thread I made about it: http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=359231

I like VatoZone Duralast filters for the trans. They come with a nice rubber gasket thats easy to install. Dont forget to clean and PUT BACK your pan magnet. If your looking for a good pan, try the Derale unit.

For other free-ish or cheap stuff though, check your wheel lug nut torque to make sure they are seated properly. If you'd like to ditch AIR without having to wait for block off plates, you can do what I did and a quarter under the factory plates to block the holes.

Since you have a vert, I would research how to change out and bleed the hydraulic fluid in your top rams/reservoir to keep that unit lasting long (Dunno if this is even an option, never had a vert).

Good luck with it and enjoy.

Thanks for the input, but a lot of people were telling me not to change the trans fluid on an older car? Sounds stupid to me, does anyone know why they are saying that?
