Default raw gas smell any ideas

i bought my 98 z28 just a little over a month ago and ever since ive got it i have smelt raw gas around it but it has no leaks i know because ive had it up on the lift a few times and shearched it over with a fine tooth comb and it has no leak i also thought that someone might have put a fuel pump in it and cut a pannel in the hatch to install and got into the tank with the cutting wheel but it has never been cut so im racking my brain tring to figure this out because it is so bad that people will look at me and ask me if i have a gas leak because they can smell it as soon as they walk up to the car has anyone else had this problem if so what had to be done to resolve this issue because at this point im ready to exsplode

It's almost like it's coming out the exhaust like it's not burning all the fuel because that's when I really smell it when I stop and shut off the engine but it don't put out no black smoke and I would think that if it was over fueling that bad it would be hard on gas and the check engine light would stay on which it does come on every once in a great while but it only throws a maf code when it does come on

Are you still running catalytic converters? If the previous owner removed or gutted them, that would definitely cause a nasty gas smell. What mods (that you know of) are done to the car?

Check the air:fuel ratio, it could be running in quite a rich condition. A line may not have a good seal on it somewhere and perhaps not leaking?
