new pro-touring 69 project!
As you guys may know, I sold my supercharged LS6 equipped red '69 Camaro SS coupe about a month ago. Its new home is up in Evansville, Indiana.
I picked up this clean hugger orange '69 SS convertible about 2 weeks ago, it was in Tennessee. Its a true X55 code SS-350, and a true code 72 hugger orange car. Best of all, it doesn't have a numbers matching engine, it has a later generation ZZ4 GM crate 350 in it......for now
I plan to detail this car out a bit more than the last one, especially the underbody. Haven't decided if I'll be using an aftermarket subframe or just restoring the stock one again like I did last time. On the rear, I'd like to lose the leaf springs this time and go with a nice coil-over and trailing arm type setup. I placed the order for some 18" iForged alloy wheels last week, they will be the newest model a split-5 spoke in high polish. I've also bought all of the RS headlight/grille/tail light parts and will convert it to an RS front end.
Under the hood, I plan on doing a custom twin-turbo LS6, targetting 700-750 rwhp conservatively on pump gas. This will be backed up with a nicely built T56 6-speed of course. I'll probably go with a silver/brushed/black theme this time, and not so much chrome and polish.
Interior-wise, i'll be adding late model seats with custom leather, and will probably have custom door panels made, and an updated dash. I want the interior to be classy, but more like a newer car. I already installed the new steering wheel shown in the photo below.
Not a bad car to start with, it has some paint and body flaws that I'll have to repair. The car was restored over 10 years ago, so it needs a freshening up and probably a repaint, as well as a new roof.
I've been driving the car around quite a bit in the last week, it actually runs/drives pretty well for an old car. Just needs better handling and more power!

Nice looking 69 Tony! I see the Auto Meters already in the stock cluster, as well as a clutch pedal already in place Are you planning on keeping the current color/stripe combo? I don't see many with the DX1 stripe option, and in my line of work, that's a statement!

Nice!!!
Hi Nine Ball,
I am fairly new to this board, but have been playing wiyh Camaro's since 1977. I too have a '69 coupe, 350/TH350, 4bbl, factory A/C, cowl hood, '68 rear spoiler (car was made in Nov. '68, antenna in RR quarter. Body has a few rough spots, the "little old lady" my wife bought it from only put 500 miles on car in 11 years. 85,000 original miles.
'02 LS1/M6 sitting in my garage next to the car. I am very new to the LS1 wiring, and will be looking for tons of help in the near future. I go out in the garage every morning hoping the f-body elfs did thier thing, but to date, nothing. '85 'Vette a-arms, knuckles, and brakes on the way, looking to order a Wayne Due frame in about a week. I am going for a black/brushed aluminum look under the hood. The frame is the first order of business, along with a million other things to do. So far, my concept is to leave the exterior stock, the interior is still undecided. I guess I should have these items resolved, just alot to deal with mechanically. I will post pics/updates once I get going, and look forward to your project, beautiful car you have there,
I thought about converting mine to a convertable, but have not found a low enough overhang for the shearing process

no offense i love these cars, but why did you chose a true hugger orange SS vert which is worth alot stock instead of a plain jane camaro to fix up? i know its gonna be an awsome car that not what im saying, its just ive grown up with my dad who lives and breathes 69 camaros and it kinda sucks that such a nice original car would be changed so much, but i mean its your car.....have fun with it i know it will be awsome

My guess would be (same as with my 67 in my sig...which I intend to restify) is cuz the original engine is long gone....even when you've got orig trans and rear (as my 67 does) it's just not the same as a numbers matching engine.

i know but it seems like hes gonna completely change it, like i said its his car and his choice, but at the same time it make more sense to me to get a plane jane to do it to and sell SS or something, your just kinda losing money bybuying an expensive car to just redo anyways
