Default 02 Z28 Rwhp

I just got an 02 Z, its an M6 with a flowmaster muffler and a volant cold air intake, so basically stock. What would the rwhp numbers be?

I dynoed 300 to the rear wheels with a cat back only on an all-wheel drive dyno.

ok because i have heard of camaros putting down anywhere from 285 to 315 stock and was just seein what everyone on here's experience was. Im also thinkin about a professional tune, how much should i expect to pay at a good shop? My budget is limited to about 700 and thats before buying new tires...

My last 2002 Z28 M6 put down 294/316 with a lid and cutout, definetly dynoed on the low side. My 2002 A4 Z28 with the same mods, similiar mileage and on the SAME dyno put down 316/333 before tune and 324/343 after. I paid $350 for a dyno tune using LS1 edit with lifetime free upgrades. I honestly wouldn't have bothered with a tune, but my car is an A4 and torque management was fighting me down the track. I only gained 8hp/10lb ft, but it gave me .02/2 mph at the track.

Saving the money for a dyno tune until you get something like headers or a cam would be wise. I put down 311/329 completely stock in a 2002 Z28 M6. You might want to consider a cutout as your next mod, for the Flowmaster catback is known to hold back some ponies. Enjoy the car!

300-310, that flowmaster is killing you. Probably less than stock due to the flowmaster.

Ok i think ill just go ahead and wait on the tune and spend the money on a better exhaust. Im thinkin about a magnaflow exhaust since they seem to be fairly inexpensive and sound nice, either that or a loudmouth. Or which cut-out would yall reccommend? Any suggestions? Performance is probably a little higher on the list than sound for me, so im just lookin for the biggest hp gains, o yea and i have a very limited budget.

So does this mean that GM gives the rwhp number instead of bhp? I always thought they meant 305 and 325 at the crank not at the wheels.

GM rated it as bhp as to not sway potential Corvette buyers. Your car has the same 350hp LS1 found in a 2002 C5.

In actuality a stock Z28 when compared to a stock C5 vette will output higher numbers because the vette has IRS.

I went from a flowmaster setup to a loudmouth. And there is no comparison. The loudmouth has an awesome sound and the hp difference is definitely noticeable. When you look at the loudmouth before you put it on the resonator is straight through no baffles. It has a low rumble if you just want to putt around town, low rumble on cruising speeds, and at WOT sounds like the beast the camaro really is. I spent about $390 through summit. Well worth it!!

Loudmouth sounds pretty good to me, because that flowmaster isnt gonna cut it for much longer.

i also have loudmouth, but if your planning on getting LT headers, be ready to be noticed from two miles away.

My O2 Z28 a4 dynoed at 311 rwhp and 324 rwt on a dynojet @ BBK in Temecula california. The only thing I had done to my car was a SLP lid and exhaust. My best time on my stret tires was an 8.2 in the 1/8th @ 87 mph with a 1.80 60ft time. Lot of people said my Z was a factory freak.

I have yet to own an '01-02 but have owned 2 '99 Z's and now an '00 WS6.
....and the newer ones dyno even better.

I have a lot of Dyno time on all and saw an average of
324 RWHP and 332 RWTQ ~ with a lid/K&N and Loudmouth ONLY.

Depending on your miles, obviously you purchased it used, I would suggest these mods for cheep, good HP:
1) Loudmouth
Great gains, reduces weight by aprox 30-40 lbs (weight translates to speed)
and pretty good sound (there will be a drone somewhere around 1800 to 3000 RPMs - each of my cars had it in different "zones")

2) Lid with good sealer & K&N filter
Purchase a good lid and then go to Home Depot and purchase some thin foam that has tape on one side ~ helps to create a much better seal.
K&N filter or any other type of better breathing filter.

3) New plugs
Purchase a good set of plugs and go ahead and replace ~ factory gaps are sometime very poor

4) Techron or other quality gas treatment
Since it's a used car, you never know how **** or lack there of the previous owner turely was ~ running a quality, safe gas treatment thru a full tank is a good preventitive.

With these additions on a DynoJet you should see around
320+ RWHP and 335+ RWTQ.
.....the added plus about DFW area, dyno time ~ $35 for three pulls
