What rearend/ gear ratio is it?

86 Iroc should be a TPI most likely with a 305. That's what my Iroc was.

85,86,87 had carbs as base models, and tpi as an option. 88-90 had tbi as a base and tpi as an option

If it is stock, it will be a 305. 140hp with the carb'd 305 I believe. I wouldn't even bother putting any money into that motor if you're going to swap a LS1 in. Just keep your money for the swap because stock Civics will rip that 305 to shreds.

Yeah, I had an '86 IROC. It was a carbed 305. It also got spanked BAD by a simple bolt-on early SN95 GT.

I realy liked my 86 Iroc. Yet it did have a cammed TPI 305. I never had it timed but it felt like it would give my 98 z28 some good competition.

I would do a simple swap to a carburated crate 355 or 383 or something.

A LS swap woul not be direct fit and would require some fabrication work.

If you have the money go with a LS7. You'll do some serious spankin with that. Honestly an LS1 or LS2 would probably be the best choice to keep the budget realistic.

My 89 is carbed with a little .030 over 350, only thing i have been beaten by is a 97 vette cammed with N2O and a 02 Z06 with a pro charger, but the fact remains it would be faster with a aluminum H/C LSx.

Its true that you can make lots of power for alot less money with a carb, but I like fuel injection better simply because you can drive them everyday with good power and decent fuel mileage. Alot of people are scared of fuel injection because of the computer and all the wiring, but if you pull one apart you will see that the wiring really isn't that hard to figure out. Plus you can have the computer tuned to make more power without taking the engine apart. Just my opinion, I like them both but if I have to drive the car alot I like fuel injection better.

In this world EFI and carb are close really. A carb wil seliver tons of power with a little less mileage than EFI, but it simply depends on how much you stab the throttle. If you have money and time with skill then EFI can be your thing with unlimited tuning curves.

EFI doesn't even take skill, its been engineered to the point of just being plug and play. But carbs are much cheaper and all you have to do is set it ontop of an engine, fire it up, and adjust it until it runs smooth. EFI is good because you can plug it, get the timing close, and let the computer do the rest. If you take the time to lay everything for an EFI system out you can easily figure out where every sensor and plug goes. They really are not hard, I think alot of people have either heard bad things or they look at all the wiring and just assume that it is too complicated.

You do have to admit, a person with knowledge and understanding of fuel maping curves and duty cycle will be able to tune better than somone just plugging in and messing with settings.

Not true. You can buy everything to make it a bolt in swap. I fabbed absolutley nothing for my swap that I did nearly 4 years ago. I can just imagine how much more is being made for these swaps nowadays.
