Default How to identify a 70-73 Camaro

My uncle is looking for a 70 to 73 camaro... he really likes the split bumper cars. Have seen different combinations of split and solid bumper cars. Some are Z28s and some are SS and RS cars. Some have the round turn signals between the headlight and grill and some are under the grill. Any one have some down and dirty Camaro 101. Thanks

.

All the split bumpers you see with the turn signals under the bumper are fake R/S cars. SOmeone built them. I have a Rally Sport model, as you said you can get other combinations. The R/S option is the only true split bumper car, no matter what other options are included. So tell him to only look at the round lite cars if he cares if it's a real Rally SPort.

i have been thinking about going with a 2nd gen split bumper myself.
another thing i have noticed, is the interior. the seats in the 73s look similar to the seats in a 4th gen ( for visual purposes only )
the seats in the 70-71 possibly 72s are the less comfortable looking flat back seats with the rectangular headrest.

i know an interior is easy to swap out, but just noting what i have seen.

x2 on the split bumpers, R/S' are the only true ones,

Are there any Z28s with split bumpers and round lights?

They have Z-28 RS models. Best combination in most peoples opinion, better drive train & better body. There are some here on the site nastyz28.com
Like I said, anything with the original lights underneath & split bumper is a fake.

You are correct, but I don't know if fake is the best word for it. All it means is that someone had a full bumper and they swapped it out for the split bumper...as the two are interchangeable. If the car has split bumpers and turn signals underneath AND RS badges, then yes it's a fake RS (or has the wrong front clip). However, if it's not claiming to be an RS but still has split bumpers and the turn signals underneath, that just means it doesn't have the original bumper.

You could get a non-split bumper car and do something similar to what Detroit Speed & Engineering did on Dale Earnhardt Jr's Camaro. They added the RS lights, and then converted the signal openings below the bumper into brake cooling ducts.

The true split-bumper RS cars also have the urethane endura-bumper that surrounds the grille opening. Non-RS cars that simply swapped bumpers do not have the urethane surround.
