Default 98 - 02 3.8L Camaro

Where can I find one of these babies. I have been looking for half a year now. I find lots on Ebay, but they usually go before I can even ask questions about the car. I am looking for a 5spd std and T-Tops. I need to find one by the summer. If anybody has one for sale or knows of a good place to look. Check out my other forum in the vehicles wanted section.

good luck, our cars are definitely not hard to find

and im pretty sure if you want a 5spd and t-tops you are going to have to buy a 5 spd car and do a t-top conversion, or buy an auto car with t-tops and do a 5 spd conversion, i dont think it was an option to get manual and t-tops

Not a 5 speed but I have my wifes 2000 NBM 3.8 A4, t-tops, chrome wheels, 50k very clean I might be willing to part with the car for the right price. In the past 12 months I have put on a total of 77 miles other than that she sit's in the garage covered up and I take her up to the store once a month to get the fluids moving

1996 was the first year the 3.8L was standard in them and it was an option in 1995 as the 3.4L was standard. 96 was also the first year with the Y87 option which included a posi rear, dual turn down exhaust, and 4 wheel disc brakes. I wish I had that on my 96

How much can a good condition Y87 be had for? And didn't that package become standard around '00?

I just checked out my book and it says that it was an option in 96 and costs 535. In 02 it was still an option that costs 430. If a dealer has a firebird with it I would almost guaranty they dont know it. Its obviously not a costly option but it is a good one to have just for the posi rear and 4 wheel disc.

the cost differnce between a v6 and a v8 isnt huge, and MPG should be slightly better in the v8.

why do you want the v6?

Woa, the mileage should be better in the V8? How so? Premium for the V8 doesn't help either.

Is it because of the really high geared rear ends on the 6's? Thinking city the V6 would fair better, but highway [which I do more of] the V8 with some low gearing would do well.

EDIT
And yes, I'm in the market for a new [to me] car, thought that the 3.8 would be a good way to go. Would love to learn more on the mileage side of things

My 96 V6 3.8L with 118k five speed gets 32 highway mpg driving it nice. If im doin 75 mph I get about 29 mpg and thats running at about 2k rpms. Just seafoamed it so we will see if that helps like it is suppose too.

Also I believe the V6 five speeds come with 3.42 gears

Even before I modded my 02 ws6 M6 I never got more than 25 mpgs on the highway at the most.

Also in terms of maintenance and problems I have only had to replace an alternator and a coil pack on the V6. Both of those can be expected to fail by 100k miles but not a big deal though. I run the **** out of mine also and its runs like a champ. Those 3.8s are the best V6 GM has built in terms of reliablity, power, and fuel economy.

Well I cant speak for anyone else, but in my A4, i get about 24 city/30 hwy.

I have read on here that guys with M6s are getting 36 or so, of course when driving nice.

keep in mind, the LS1 weighs about the same as the 3800 (aluminum block versus and iron block), and the extra overdrive gear and lower gear ratio.

now the premium gas versus normal gas, I cant argue. Its $.20 a gallon more, which adds up fast. Im just saying, you arent going to save much, expecially if youre like most of the V6 guys who end up spending money making their engine faster, or swap to a v8 down the line.
