you would have to find the right buyer, but IMO a job like this is done for personal gratification, not for a profit. I dont see you getting anything more than $10k, but if you find the right buyer you can get probably double that.

of course what i say means nothing since: 1) i havnt seen the car, or pics of it in its current state; 2)Im not a car appraiser; 3) im not a huge fan of 3rd gens, nor am i a fan of drive-by-wire.

BTW any dyno numbers?

Not yet,

im actually finishing up the swap right now. The engine stock is 295hp/325tq. @ rw. I figure with the little bump in cam, and the LS6 intake, im around 310rwhp - 330rwtq.

It is going to be a limited marker. An ls1 would have added to the value a lot more than a 5.3L. You can get a 98 ls1 powered F-body for $5K easy now. & your rwhp estimates are way high for that engine.

Im not so sure. Seeing i was offered $7k several times before i put the new motor in. I will eventually swap an LS1 in if i dont sell it.

Rwhp estimates high? No. Seeing GM measures their engine out put's at the trans tailshaft with the vehicles full exhaust/accessories etc.

Easy to say id make up the difference of the rear diff on a truck with my higher flowing exhaust & intake alone. Meaning 295rwhp in my camaro, is very comparable to 295 tailshaft hp in a truck.

Only way to tell what it puts down is to strap it down to the dyno. As for the sale price, don't ask if you are going to be offended. Try to sell it and see what you can get. You may get lucky.

GM's only real underrating of their cars came from the early LS1 cars, ie 98-02. Everything else is pretty much in line with being done at the flywheel with all accessory parts in. The 5.3 with the 5.3 cam, LS6 intake and stock manifolds will put down in the 270HP range with it around 300ft/lb of torque.

Dyno day is coming up in a little more than a month, get it ready for then to find out!

Wow I think that is really low. A stock low mileage IROC is worth $8,000-$10,000. Add in a newer engine (an LS1 would have been a better choice but they are also more expensive) and a few mods and I think you could get $10-$11,000 easily. Obviously the only way to find out for sure is to put it up for sale.

I would think to the average guy looking for a performance car...it wouldn't fetch that much money. IMHO, this is one of those "specialty" cars that you need to find the right buyer for. There are quite a few of people out there who LOVE 3rd gens and this would be a great car for them. Its a 3rd gen built to drive like a car 20 years newer. However, you have to find that buyer and that might be hard to do.

i sold my 82 6.0 with ls6 heads, trex, homemade lt headers from chopped up
3rd gen summit headers and msd igntion, truck coils,
th350 with 02 SS torxen lsd rear end and cross drilled rotors.
custom steel 3 in ds from local ds shop
low pressure fuel pump aeromotive , aeromotive fpr, vic jr., and 750hp holley dp
sold for 7,300$
car was white, ht, 4th gen firebird seats, autometer gages.
imo the 5.3 will severely limit the $ negotiation, a 5.7 alloy block is worth more, so is a 6.0.
however your car has better paint, body alignment and body shape was 9/10
on my car, i also has bmr/lca's subframe connectors
had no a/c and ls1 fbody serpentine system
also had pa racing kmember

Most of the 98 + cars are now cash cars too, meaning virtually all of the buyers will be cash buyers or get a private loan. Thats what hurts. If I was in the market, I d much rather have a 3rd gen over a 4th gen, if it had a gen 3 engine. Its a better car, easier to work on, etc etc. It should be worth a lot more, but there are few buyers that want a good car. Most people make assumptions and judgemenets based on inexperience and follow the eye. The pretty shiny stuff. You can sell a 98 v6 car with 20's on it easier then a third gen with an ls engine......probably 89 out of 100 people would buy the 4th gen v6 car....11 would say....wow, wow....whats this.....in this third gen. I l take it. Finding them is the hard part.
