Default 2014 LSX Challenge Series Outlaw Drag Radial Class now 1/8th mile!

Hot off the presses...

NMCA and GM announced that the LSX Series Outlaw Drag Radial class will be 1/8th mile and the Atlanta CHP National race will be the first one in this format.

Thanks to Mark Carlyle, Mark Koehler and all the racers who communicated their passion and interest in seeing this happen. Should see new cars showing up now!

So what's the next class down now? I was going to run this class and have been building since last year for the format that was in place, and now I think I'll be illegal for the next lower class.

Love the response. So what's the "mid class" now. Basically you're either an entry racer or a damn sponsored car. Way to go.

Unfortunately there is no "mid class". Drag Radial was just changed from 1/4 mi to 1/8 mi is all. The racers and builders made the call to go this route due to the expense it takes and the safety factor of 3300 pound cars going 220 mph on small tires.

I have been lobbying to get a heads up class that would cover the gap between Real Street(which will most likely see 7 seconds this year), and Rumble.

The car count should be no issue as there are plenty of racers that would like to go heads up, but can't afford to be competitive in R/S now. R/S was planned to be a 8.50 type class when it was setup originally, but like anything else heads up the cars have well surpassed that, and along comes the high cost of doing so.

There are 2 issues with another class. Sponsorship is first and foremost as there isn't much of any way the racer entry covers the payouts. Second is the time allotment in the daily race schedule. With the sealed motor class most likely going to happen this will be hard to pull off with NMCA.

LSX Drag Radial
Real Street
All Motor

The new class will eventually be LS Stock. LS Stock will probably be a mid 10 second class.

another class should happen next year, crate motor. In nmca and lsx. I know it not tunable in the engine, but its heads up. Mid class how about 8.5 tire in the 1/8th with the limited type rules.

I'd be surprised if they added another class while they are working on the LS Stock class.

Never been a huge fan of 1/8th mile racing, but if that's what the racers what then I'm fine with it. Anything to help grow the sport and this particular class.

I don't see one problem about the change. My car is geared for both 1/8 and 1/4 mile track, living in south Florida where I have a 1/4 track north if me and a 1/8 track south of me.

Pro stock john, if you say there coming out with a Ls stock class that's a mid 10 sec class, you mean that by in the 1/4 so 6 sec class in the 1/8? Correct? If so keep me updated, my car is. Already set up for this class if so.

I'm pretty happy about the change... although my car is "sponsored" I still spend a metric $hit ton trying to keep in competitive in the 1/4 mile. The change to 1/8 mile may just allow me lose less money than I have in previous years. If you get into racing thinking you are going to get sponsors to cover all your expenses... think again! I sill pay more than all of my sponsors combined pay.

That being said I love having the help and couldn't race without it.... my car would still be an 8 second car if it were not for the help I get from my sponsors.

Anyone trying to progress through this process would be best served going into Real Street before Drag Radial, making a name for themselves and then move up to Drag Radial.

I will be in Georgia next weekend and hope to be able to put on a great show... if you come to the race, come by, say hi, and buy a T-shirt to help support my team!

We knew that was going to happen as the racers have an active 'network.' A few cars got pulled together the week before and didn't have any shakedown time. Between refreshing drivelines and chassis updates their time to test got eat up.

Norwalk will be a show. Great track, and all the big dog cars have many updates over the winter.

Norwalk looked like a great race! We need more cars in DR. I wish mine was ready!!! 1/8th mile should bring some more cars in next year, I hope!! We need to lessen the dollars it takes to build and run in this class for it to grow IMO.

I hope to be ready for Indy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!
