A/C Questions
To start out, I'm installing a 2002 5.3l engine into my 1980 Camaro, using custom made motor brackets. Now i can notch the frame to get the a/c in (using the original mounting location of the engine) but there is a plug (sensor I'm guessing) on the rear of the compressor that just barely clears my motor mounts but when the wires are plugged in it will hit the mounts.
Now my question is, what is the plug on the back of the compressor and do i need it? If i do need it can it be removed and replaced with a different plug?

That plug is for the A/C high pressure switch. You would need this if running a factory type control circuit. It sends a signal to the PCM to help run the compressor.
I don't think you will find anything to stick in the compressor except that particular switch but if you are using some other type of compressor control you might be able to just leave it unplugged.

So if that is the high pressure sensor then as long as i have another sensor in the high side line then i can leave that one alone? If thats the case that will work the best, assuming i can find a sensor bung to weld on the line.

If you flash the pcm for an 00-02 camaro then have the tuner overlay the spark and fuel tables for the 5.3 over the existing 5.7 tables then you can do the following. The trucks use a system of low and high pressure switches that when wiring a conversion up can be a pain just because of the added wiring. However all of the camaros use a single three wire pressure switch that mounts on the liquid line between the condensor and the evaporator. This single switch controls high and low pressure cut in and out in a neat package that only requires three wires run to the pcm and the a/c request signal to the pcm. If you are running electric fans the f-body programming also has a high and low speed fan output that will automatically engage the fans on a request for the a.c compressor clutch. They make plugs that you can put into the switch port after you remove the high pressure switch.

you can get the pressure switch port from doc's blocks.
