The 6l90 has a nice first gear and double over drive. And will work with the later Gen IV LS3. So you could have a conservative rear end ratio of 3.55 and still have a good launch as well as good fuel mileage.

First 4.03
Second 2.36
Third 1.53
Fourth 1.15
Fifth 0.85
Sixth 0.67
Reverse 3.06

with a 4.03 first gear, you could run a 2.73 gear and still get a good launch. 4l60es and t56 are around 3

I've toasted the 3rd gear clutches in 700R4's too many times, and the gear spacing between 1st and 2nd SUCKS. 4L80E, TH400, or TH350.

Since it's going in a 4th gen daily driver, I think 4L60E would be the first choice since it's a bolt-in. I think the 'E solves the 700R4's 2->3 valvebody problems--does anyone know for sure? On the other hand the gear spacing still sucks compared to a 4L80E or TH400.

4L60E is the same internals as the 700 just has the electronic valve body, so it still has the weak 3rd gear drum and the big 1st to 2nd drop. The 4L65E has the sun gear that has 5 internal gears making it slightly stronger, but the 65E still has the bad 1st to 2nd drop. The 4L65E is still not made to handle any real torque, abuse, Nitrous, or a heavy car. Go 4L80E for strenght or hang an OD on a TH400.
