Default GEN 4 L33/LS1 into an 04 Colorado

OK, so I'm new here for the most part. I'm looking for any guidance on this swap; here are the current details.

05 Silvy 5.3 L33 w/ LS6 heads, LS1 intake/fuel rails/water pump. This motor is complete ready to drop in with all acc. included.

Its going into a 04 Chevy Colorado ZQ8 Crew cab, with a 4L60E, 10 bolt rear w/ 3.42s

I'm going to have some head work done, new cam, valve train worked, tuning.

Any help or recommendations will be helpful. This will be my first LSX swap.

The L33 is not a Gen IV motor its Gen III.

The good news is the Colorado now comes with a 5.3L so that means An oil pan that fits (LH8) and the mounts as well. Any GM dealer will have or get. The rest is just wiring and fuel.

EDIT: and you'll need a V-8 4l60 as well.

for the wiring you can go to current performance. expensive but it will be a direct plug in harness. no splicing wires or anything.

Well from what I have read thus far, where its a 05, its considered a GEN IV, either way with all thing said and considered the parts are interchangeable.

As far as the oilpan goes, the current L33 oil pan will work with my colorado.

Current performance will be doing my wiring harness.

Actually, my current 4L60e in my colorado will work, but it will require me to change the output shaft.

it does matter if it's a 3rd or 4th gen. Some sensors, wiring harness, and tune are all different. Btw it's a 3rd gen.

The L33 is a gen IV engine. Its the alluminum block ,cam sensor in the front cover, and ports casted into the block for DOD. go to this link and there is a list of all the genIII and gen IV engines and it shows the L33 as a gen IV.

No, that is incorrect. A friend of mine has an 06 z71 with an L33 in it. It is a GEN III.

the fact that it is alluminum does not make it a gen IV. Like the last post see if the cam sensor is in the front cover. that will be really the only way to tell other than pulling the intake and valley cover to see if it has the bosses for DOD. I said it was gen IV strictly on what that website i had the link to showed but that very well could be wrong. just check the front cover as that will be the answer

Plus it should have a 24x relutor wheel and (should have the knock sensors under the intake) the Gen VI are on the side.
From the General himself! http://media.gmcanada.com/us/powertr...M7_L33_L59.pdf

The 5cy 4l60 will not hold up to the v8 and I thought they had different bell housings as well?

It will hold up, it has been done before. And yes you are correct about the bellhousing too. Either way I will take my current 4l60 and have it built when I do the install.

Hold on and I will post a pics of the front of the motor. This is the only other pic of the motor I have here at work. Hopefully this will be enough to sort out the confusion on what GEN it is.

Gen III
Knock sensors are under the intake, and the MAP sensor is in the back as well.

yeah well after looking at trans mods go, I think I will be buying a whole new trans thats been built. This way there is nothting to worry about during the built.

SO any thoughts on what cam to run? I'm looking at either a LS6 intake or an aftermarket unit.

How much does that truck weigh? What converter are you going to run? Rear gear ratio?
