I have searched and asked some people with no definitive answer. Does my E38 ECM need the oil pressure input to run or not? Im not using VVT or AFM.

I want to use the valley port for my gauge and sender hookup. I am aware of the ports by the oil filter, but due to clearance, I prefer the valley.

Do you know what the ECM came out of?

The ECM came with an aftermarket LS7 harness that has the oil sender wiring. The PN is 12597121. I had a base tune loaded and I dont think there would be a vin since in did not come from a factory vehicle.

Well, my LS7 uses a Speartech harness with an E38 and it didn't come with a hookup for oil pressure. My car runs great, so I guess it wasn't needed. I used port for the sender to run the gauge in the car, too.

I suspect VVT and AFM motors might need the oil pressure info for the ECM to function properly. Using a scan gauge might be another reason to use it also.

No problem man. I suspect you're right about AFM and VVT. My LS2 GTO has oil pressure as readable through the scanner, but I don't think it does much else other than warn through the display if it's low.

The factory sender also helps the E38 set a DTC if there is an oil pressure loss, either momentary or continuous. Its not a bad idea to keep it for the momentary loss which you may not notice otherwise.

I use a tee piece between the factory sender on the sender port to run a regular gauge.
