Default Anybody know about 69' Opel GT's?

Im pretty sure doin an lsx swap into this car is possible but would it be too light to get traction and actually reach its full potential.

Ex. h/c/i car on street tires lol. Thx for the info!

Finding one that hasn't returned to iron oxide will be tough, but it would be very fun

There are a couple in the shop where I work, the owner is planning to put a Miata drivetrain in one. But from what I recall, the stock Opel engine/trans combo is pretty stumpy and it's going to be tough to clear the hood line up front.

cool that there are still people who know what this car is . esp in the states.
I'm working on a ls1 swap in it's sporty brother : the 1970 opel 1900 sport coupe, the engine + drivetrain are the same on these cars

Ah the 1900, my Grand Dad had one.
As far the GT goes, It is a pretty neat car, and very hard to find in good condition. But that would be a cool swap.

They're pretty tiny. When I saw one I thought a V-6 might be a good swap.

Are there any LS-v6s?

I almost purchased an opel to do an ls6 swap. After doing a lot of research and talking to some opel owners, i found a major weakness. Every one that i talked to said that the car is so flimsy that the torque from a v8 will cause the windsheild to break. I love the styling of the car but your going to have to fully cage the car to stiffen the chassis.

it's actually not too bad, we have quite a few running over 300whp, without cage, but it's allways a good idea to install a cage in a small, light rwd car with big power they are quite a handfull to keep on the road at full power...

with a cage it gets even more interesting ..

Hell all through the 70's people were slaming big and smallblocks in them for the track.

I love those little cars, I want to do the exact same thing for an "economy car". Unfortunately it keeps falling down the priority list. It is tough to find a clean one that they don't want too much for, but they can still be had. I was planning on a full tube frame, but mostly hidden an LS and a six speed. Mostly street/ G machine performance car. In stock form they are only like 1900lbs. I have even thought up a couple ideas to put a Busa or GSXR 1300 street bike motor in the rear ( 200+ hp some gears, sequential six speed, and 13000rpms might be interesting). It looks to me if you cut the front radiator support out it will definitely free up some real estate. Major fab will be required for a clean job, but it would be awesome. Please PM me when you start a project thread as I am very interested in this.

That would make for an amazing V8 swap.

Long live the 70's era fender flares!! I love the IMSA look of the late 70's early 80's cars. But I am a little nuts
