Default air intake for my 69 camaro

Hi I am getting ready to build the air intake for my 69 camaro and have a couple of questions. first it is a ls1 with heads, cam, fast 92 intake, headers, throttle body. the questions I have are

what size pipe should i use 3, 3.5, or 4 inch

were should i put the mass air flow sensor as close to the trottle body or as close to the air cleaner

has anyone used the maf from the new vett or cobolts, i saw a car on the detroit speed web page using this one, is what the Gm ls1 kits are being sold with. Is there a differance with this one verses the stock or the plastic truck one?what is the best one to use?

From what i have understood you want something like 6" between the MAF and throttle body that way the turbulence from a partially opened throttble body wont cause a false MAF reading.

Use 4in pipe..
Like Shawn said keep it away from the TB if you can.
Check out Spectre Performance. I got my stuff from them to make mine and it came out great and it was a total bolt on..

Let me know if you need any more info..

The TB is 4 inch ID the MAF is 3.5 ID on the ls1. You also need the IAT sensor somewhere in the mix.

Spectre has an adaptor that lets you use 4in pipe with the stock MAF..

As for the Air Intake temp sensor. It is mounted with a gromet. I drilled a hole in one of the 4in pipes that I got from Sprectre and bought a new gromet from my GM dealer for 2 or 3 dollars. Done deal..

Can a newer MAF/Air temp sensor(5 pin?) combo be used instead of seperate parts? Any advantage?

I think so.. There is a site called eficonnection.com or somthing like that. And they sell all sorts of EFI harnesses. I think they have an adaptor to the 5 pin style..

I believe that Casper's Electronics makes a plug in connector to convert your MAF/IAT connectors to a single 5pin for that usage. Does anybody have the Spectre part number? I was looking at Summit yesterday and they have lots of stuff.

I used the following Spectre parts.. I can find the part numbers if you want but they are all on their site..

-4in 90 degree elbow
-4in 20 degree elbow
-3 4in rubber couplers
-GM MAF adaptor

This worked great for me and bolted right together..

Where did you get the 4" MAF sensor? I'm about to install my LS3 in my 69 Camaro and will need to come up with something. But it came with the 3.5" MAF sensor.

Spectre make a rubber ring that goes around the MAF to make it 4in. Works very well.

I also ordered my Spectre stuff from here, cheapest I found and got all the stuff in about 3 days.

On a side note, does it matter if the IAT is before or after the MAF. Assuming it doesn't since the 5 pins have them intergral.

This place has all you need:
http://intakehoses.com/

Excellent and fast service. They have the 90° elbow that is 4" to 3 1/2". This lets yo mount the MAF directly to the elbow.
