Default Vintage Air with GM compressor will it work ???

I have a Vintage Air Gen 2 evaporator box and I've heard that you can use a stock late model GM compressor with it; the compressor I have is from a 98 Camaro (my car is an LS1 conversion). But, Vintage Air says that it won't work, because it's a variable displacement compressor. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not saying it will work, but I'd want more of an explaintion then that. I'd have rather had them tell the truth, they're either not smart enough or not willing to spend the resourses, to incorperate this improvement in to their product line. If you wanted to be technical, all autos have variable compressors, because they run at variable speed, as the motor speed changes. The variable displacement compressor tries to even this out. If you do a search, there was a thread somewhere explaining how to convert the VD compressor to fixed displacement.

no it wont work... i had to buy the sanden unit to get my VA to work...
you will either have to run the gm controlls and only use the evap box... or keep the VA controlls and swap to a sanden compressor

Save yourself the headache and get the Sanden that the system is designed for. I've personally done both (first was 98 ls1 compressor) and the Sanden compressor. The ls1 compressor gets cool, but the Sanden gets COLD. Just my $0.02.

Glad this was brought up. I had the same question and no a/c here in Arizona isn't any fun.
