Default How much clearnace do you need between your transmission and trans tunnel?

How much clearnace do you typically need between your transmission and the trans tunnel?

What is the minimum?

Is half an inch enough?

I just don't know how much the engine and transmission squirm around when you're beating on the car.

Thanks, -Dave

run poly motor mounts and a poly trans mount and 1/2" is fine. Otherwise pick up some solid motor mounts and not worry about any movement at all.

just adding one more comment in case you didn't know, when i said solid motor mounts you still run a poly trans mount, don't buy a solid trans mount since it'll snap the bellhousing when the chassis flexes.

Poly mounts aren't really an option for me - I don't want the extra noise and vibrations from the drive train. I definitely want to use rubber insulators.

So is that it - half an inch is enough?

Will that allow enough room to avoid contact?

How about dissipating enough heat?

After you bolt your motor fast, jack on the drivers side and see how close it gets. As far as heat, put some deadning pad under the carpet. Interesting project by the way
