Check these guys out. They've been doing Chevy V8 conversions into Porsches for a while and do both complete conversions and mail order kits.

would love to see this happen. If the stock Boxster transaxle could be used that would be primo.... but I doubt it could handle the power. A G50 or similar transmission that can hold the power needs oiling mods to be "flipped over" for mid engine use. That is in the $7-15K range itself depending upon what is inside it and what needs to be gone thru.

It's nice that a T56 can be rebuilt and handle 700ft/lbs for about $450 in parts.

For anyone interested in tackling this project I make the adapter to use an LS engine with the Boxster or Cayman transaxles. I have done one and it is being installed out in CA. I will let you know how it goes. The builder is using the LS4 front accessories to get the engine as short as possible.

The swap in those links is being done by a guy that runs a Porsche business, and he just moved to a new facility. I suspect he has little time available to move on the project unlike someone that has a 9 to 5 job. He crew-chief's for a race tean in addition. I don't believe it's a commissioned build either.

I am also wondering why nobody finishes this. That boxsterspec forum is now defunct, so a lot of info is also missing now.

I have a Boxster S and there is an LS1 long block from a Camaro SS for sale locally for $800. I'm ready to pull the trigger, but a bit worried that nobody ever finishes these swaps. Maybe the LS1 is just too long?

The alluring thing about swapping the S engine is that the 3.2L engines are going for $4-5k on ebay, used, and a bit more if rebuilt. So I could potentially make money on the swap by selling my Porsche engine AND have a kickass engine to replace it. All other options for increasing hp on the stock engine are $$$.

The actual car for the swap is in the hands of the shop owner now. The key components have already been made and are also in his hands. The shop is going through a transitional period so this project isn't the #1 priority but it will be completed, hopefully by June.

I've asked him just to do a quick swap just to get the car moving but he wants everything pro with all of the accessories functioning

Hey, it's still going? That's great, I just emailed you last night. Any fitment issues? Eric mentioned he has an adapter plate, so I know that the starter issue has been solved. I think I can handle any mounting issues will a bit of steel and some welding, but what about the pulleys? Do they hit the firewall?

I found out yesterday that the G86.20 tranny (from the Boxster S) is rated for just 280 ft-lb input torque (Getrag spec). That is not good. I had read that this is the same gearbox as the 996TT (with swapped ring gear orientation), but that is definitely not true. The TT uses a Getrag with a much higher torque rating.

So I was thinking about destroking the LS1 to reduce the torque on the G86 input shaft. Then upgrade the valve springs to get to 7200 rpm redline (which is the same as Boxster S) to recoup some of the lost hp caused by the shorter stroke. But then the project price goes up and you miss out on some of that monster torque. I'd like to keep it around $3-4k overall because that's what I'd expect to get for my 3.2 L after pulling it.
