Default 305 700r4 to 5.3 60E 87 Chevy 4x4

I am trying to get a price for a buddy on a engine swap from a 305 700r4 to 5.3 4l60e.
The truck
1987 Chevy 1500 4x4 Short Bed
TBI 305
700r4
The Plans
Getting a wrecked silverado using
5.3 with stock harness and pcm and fuse box.
4L60 E Will this need to be a 4wd unit because of the Transfer case or will a 2wd work? Also the 60e and 700r4 are the exact same demisions right?
Car shop sbc to ls1 mounts.

Want to stick with all the truck accessories and stock drive shafts.

Main thing Im concerned about is the transmission i need to get the transfer case to work.

your going to run into a problem with the front axle. on the older chevys the center chunk is on the passerenger side vs. the driverside like the newer ones.

It has a 6 inch lift so the oil pan shouldnt be a problem if thats what you are referring to?

nope not the problem. not going to look for the pics but heres what im talking about.
front axle of a 87 down chevy truck from the front. (-0---) heres what the 88 up trucks axle looks like from the front (---0-). see what im saying about the chunk? your going to run into a problem with using the 4l60e unless the transfer case can be rotated to make it work. maybe someone makes a adapter to crue this?

The 2wd 4l60 won't work you'll have to swap to the short output 4x4 trans or rebuild the 2x4 and swap in the shorter shaft.

Also what transfer case does he have now? If its the NP208 you need the correct stock adapter to fit the later 4l60. Not to hard as the later adapter will fit the round style NP208 mount transfer cases anyway.

If you keep the motor in the stock SBC location the driveshafts will be the same.

We are going to look tonight to see what case it has. Any links to the various adapters?

The stock GM 4l60e transfer case adapter. Heres one on E-bay for 35.00 bucks. Make sure it is the round bolt pattern at the trans tailshft vs the eariler 700r4/4l60 four bolt style. The transfer case end will be six bolt round. These will work with the NP208/241 etc..
