Default Truck Swap

I know this may be somewhere on here, but I havent quite found the answer I am looking for.

I had a friend offer to sell me a LS1 from a 2000 Pontiac Trans Am. I recently messed my engine up and I now need one. I have a 2001 5.3L Chevy Z71.

I was wondering the estimated cost of the swap, and the parts it would take to make the swap possible. If it is even possible to switch the engines and not the transmissions.

Both the 5.7 and 5.3 are GEN III`s. Its a bolt in. Just use the LS1 shortblock and throw your accys on (PS, ALT, intake, balancer, exhaust manifolds, etc).

Okay. I had been looking at it and hadn't found any information to see if I could do it.

So I wouldn't need a new wiring harness or new engine mounts or anything of that sort? And would all of the accys have the same bolt patterns?

no, the accy`s would be a different arrangement. the harness will be different also. the pcm`s are in a different spot also. you would need to change some electrical plugs on the engine.

You would use your truck accys and brackets (they will bolt to the 5.7L) You don`t need to do any re-wiring, remove the camaro harness and use the wiring harness from your 5.3L you will be changing to the 5.3l intake and coils and you will have to change some of the sensors.

Did you try looking on performancetrucks.com? this swap has been done a bunch of times before.

You should have your computer reprogrammed afterwards for the 5.7l engine.

If you're using the truck accessories, you'll have to use your truck intake also, since the Fbody throttle body will not clear them, but this will also eliminate the issue of changing the injector plugs
