Default Fire Up

I am just finishing my conversion. I am wondering is it o.k. to fire it with no exhaust? I know it will run and all,but will the o2's work? Or should i wait till the exhaust is done. Thanks Wes

If you're just talking about open headers, my best guess is that you should be fine, as long as you don't run it too long (probably several minutes) or wind it out to high RPMs.

I've heard it said that running without backpressure can hurt the exhaust valves, & then I've heard that that's a bunch of bull. I figure that these engines aren't such "fragile little flowers" that they'd fall victim to that (but I'm a layman, not an expert, so take that for what it's worth)...

as long as you have headers or manifolds on it, fire it up and enjoy.

Running with open headers is fine. If you try to drive it it will run like crap because the open headers will mess with the O2 sensors. If you have manifolds only I would not let it run more than a minute or so because after you shut it off cold air will enter the manifold and it's possible it could cause a exhaust valve to warp when the cool air hits the hot valve.

I ran mine with open shorty headers and no O2 and drove it 6 miles to the exhaust shop that way. Before that I drove it around the neighborhood several times with no resulting problems.

Same here. Been driving mine around the neighboorhood with open shorty headers and no o2's. All I did was program the computer to speed density mode and added fuel to the map via hptuners to make sure it didn't lean out..
