Question 94 z28 with ls1--ur the man if u got the answers

I currently have a 99' Z28 that was wrecked by my wife(yes, I still love her). LS1 engine/trans are in perfect condition. My dad has a completely restored 94' Z28 with a blown LT1(cracked head). I have heard the horror "cost" stories of doing a LT1 to LS1 conversion, but my question is if I have all the needed conversion parts on my 99, would the cost still be extreme to convert them over to the 94? I'm talking full convert--wiring, gas tank, electronics, exhaust, cradle....etc.

You don't have to mess with the Fuel System..that is a big mis-conception. You already having the Car will help make it easy.

Read this.. it will give you an idea..

I noticed you had to use the LS1 steering components. Would I have to do that or just use the LT's steering? You were installing a 6.0L while I'm dropping in that LS1

Not any difference between the 6.0l and the LS1 when it comes to the Wiring and how to hook it up.

You will have to use the LS1 Steering.

Basically the easiest way for you would be to un-bolt the K-member as-is from the LS1 Car with the Engine on it and stick it up right under the LT1 Car. I believe the Brake Lines will even bolt right up to the LT1 ABS Module.

and steering wise, yes u have to use ls1 steering i tried to cheap out and plus i couldnt find a k member at first. i tried conversion motor mounts which will work and fit the problem is, the rack and pinion , they do bolt in the same location and are interchangible but the difference is the angle of the actual pump where the steering colubm and lines go in to its back on more of an angle torwards the firewall this is because the motor is shaped more "square" than the lt1 and if you try to use the lt1 rack and steering it will hit the headers and you will be dealing with clearance problems, just go for a k member....and rack and pinion , you will also need the steering link that connects the columb and the rack......the rest of the suspension will fit from your lt1 car the lower control arms struts all that on to the ls1 k member.... i swap the brake lines from my lt1 k member... they are the same deisgn the only difference is the angle and hole to mount the motor mounts... the lt1 brake lines fit exactly on the ls1 k member, and also the ls1 brake line fit in to the ls1 car...any other questions just ask

Hey i am doing this swap also but with a 2000 LS1 and 95 z28 camaro. Also had heating problems and head gaskets were blown.

My question is could you keep the Kmember from the LS1, still connected to the suspension and control arms and brakes, and just bolt that onto the 95? Because on the 95 camaro the suspension is kinda shot and the LS1 suspension is still good so does it fit nice?

Yes, you sure can. Leave the front wheels on, un hook the steering shaft/brake lines and unbolt it/roll it out and under your lt1 car.

I'm not sure about the auto one.. I know the T56 has the same mounting location.

I just ground out the mount hole on the crossmember. Check out my post https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...-2000-ls1.html

I used to have Conversion Mounts..to be honest with you they are more of a pain in the *** than they are worth with these cars, the LS1 K-member is an option and makes life alot easier.

I would use the Conversion Mounts if I didn't have an option..

I put a LY6 (iron block 6.0 with L92 heads) into my 1994 Firebird Formula. I've got about $6-7k in the whole thing including the purchase price of the vehicle. It's really just bolt-ons with VVT with weight reduction mods. I've got a UMI road race K-member, Harwood Formula hood (which is like... half the weight of the stock metal hood), and a number of other things.

The point is, most of the cost/headache comes in with wiring... just go ahead, do yourself a favor, and pay for a professionally-made wiring harness. I was just fortunate to have a wiring professional in my family

It's not really that bad..once I got in there and figured out what was what, I had it. I paid $200 for the Harness and $60 for the PCM..then $225 in the Tune and it was good. Compare that to the $700+ you will just pay for the Harness alone that's not too bad.

yeah, but some people don't understand how to read wiring diagrams or know how to solder etc etc. It can get tedious. For me, I had my brother do it since he does auto electrical wiring professionally (www.mr220v.com) and he figured out how to get my VVT LY6 running in my Firebird inside of a night. But he walked me through it and it wasn't that bad, really.... tedious yes, but not terrible.

I didn't have to solder anything..I have the little tools that you can take the Pins out of the Connectors..they come in handy..
