Default 6.0L with m21

I have a 69 m21 with a 10-spline shaft that I'm trying to mate to a 2000 6.0L
What flywheel and clutch can I use to get this done? Do I use a flywheel for that year truck? or?

Use using the z-bar or going hydraulic?

McLeod makes a new flywheel for this conversion specifically. There's may different opinions on this subject..You'll be able to use any off the shelf 10 or 11 inch pressure plate. And any 10 spline disk.

Some guys I know are just running the ls7 clutch set-up with a hydraulic throw-out bearing.

I'm not against the hydraulic clutch setup. Apparently, an 80's gmc truck setup will bolt right in my corvette. Has anyone used this setup through mcleod? what's the price on their flywheel?

I just bought one from mcleod, they are about $430. I ordered it through scoggins & dickie, was going to be more straight from mcleod. Guy on the forum told me he used an ls7 flywheel & pressure plate with a old style clutch, said he had to use a longer throughout bearing. For a 68 corvette swap he did with a Muncie. Ask as many questions on the forum so you spend stupid money if you don't have to.

Kiesler has everything you need. I used one of their bellhousings and HTOB with an LS7 clutch and flywheel.

Oops, I should add that the LS7 clutch wont work with your 10 spline. I am not familar with the truck set-up. I do know that at the minimum you'll have to use a "big block" bellhousing such as a 621 or a 697.

There are a lot a variables to this swap. For one is the difference between GEN I and GEN III/IV motors crankflange locations relative to the bellhousing flange on the back of the motor. GEN III/IV motors are recessed by .400" this is the reason McLeod made the "adaptor" flywheel. Once again, it can be done with the a regular flywheel but the clutch disc rides a little close to the end of the splines for my liking.

You could use the McLeod flywheel, get a BB bellhousing if you dont already have one, and an extended pilot bearing which McLeod makes also. This way you can use the clutch you already have, a normal TO bearing and use the mechanical linkage if you want. You also have to get Scoggin Dickey's ball adaptor bracket to use the mechanical linkage...

Check out this post for pics of the longer crank on the 99-00 LQ4 6.0s. 've read a couple other posts saying a manual LS1 flywheel wont work.
Let me know if someone makes an adapter flywheel for it.

Dam! Oop's again, never paid any attention to the fact that it is a 2000 block, I've been dealing with 02 and newer...

I should learn to read the ENTIRE post before opening my mouth..

I already have a BB bellhousing. Does someone have a pic that compares the surface distance of the bellhousing flanges versus the flywheel? I'm not sure I follow what everyone has said. Also, the difference between the newer and the version of 6.0L that I have.

Hey Gary, I just looked at the pics you posted a link to. Do you know what the measured difference is? How much longer is the crank on the early 6.0?

I've read on here that it's 0.4" longer. But I've never measured it myself.

well, I have an extended throwout bearing in my trans right now. So, I might just see if the bellhousing has the clearance and then run a shorter bearing or just have a spacer machined for it. How is the crank weighted on these? I wonder if a newer gto flywheel would work on it.

The starter wont reach the ring gear with it extended out 0.4".
In addition I suspect the splines on the trans input shaft will hit the pilot bearing before the trans is seated to the block.

Yeah, i wasn't thinking about that when I posted. What is the manual trans used in 99-00 6.0L? Maybe the bellhousing could be used from that?

As far as I know, the 99-00 iron 6.0 truck blocks only came with the 4L80e trans. I've not seen a reference to anything other than that.

yeah, you could get a 5speed with the 6.0L. I was thinking about buying a flywheel and maybe a bellhousing to take some measurements. Maybe I can get some info on a truck forum..

Just make sure it's not a 5.3 , 5 speed flywheel. My understanding is they all used the shorter crank.

does anyone have a way to look up detailed info on flywheels? the 2000 silverados with the 6.0L had flywheel 6547 and the 4.8L had flywheel 6545 according to autozone. I believe it to be a standard part #. I imagine that the 6.0L flywheel would account for the longer shaft in some way. I may just order one, mount it, and take some measurements.

I have a 2001 6.0 and M21 in my 71 Vette. My m21 is a 26 spline so I used the LS7 clutch. My clutch is mechanical and I have an adjustable pivot ball. My throwout bearing is a stock replacement for a 71 Vette. I should have used an extended one to get the geometry right. As it is now my pivot ball is extended as far as I dare and the rod coming off the pedal is almost maxed out. it works fine this way so I'm not going to change it until the next time the motor comes out, whenever that is.

If I remember right, I read somewhere that you used the truck oil pan? If so, how much did you cut it down? If so, do you have pics of it?
