Default 67 mustang hybrid starts

I have finally got my 6.0 ls2 67 shelby vert wired. I started the car without exhaust which means i did not have the oxegen sensors installed. The car started hard and all it would do is idle eraticly. would this be caused by the lack of oxegen sensors? i sure hope so. All and any help appreciated. i would like to post some pics. i could email them to someone if they could do this for me?

thanks again jason

Ya the PCM reads the a/f mixture via the first set of o2 sensors. Without them installed the pcm doesn't know how much fuel to add.

Can you post some pics? How well did the engine fit?

I have been considering something like this on a convertible stang of similar year.

What tranny are you running? T56?

This is very exciting. congrats.

I love the thought of an LS in a classic stang!

Also what mods did you have to do to get the engine to fit? did it drop in?

I have been told that pre 1968 models require the shock towers to be modified as well as steering possibly. Did you run into these issues?

You been told wrong. Heck, even the pre-1968 thing is wrong, 67's and 68's have the same engine compartment.

A 289 is 24" wide, and an LS1 is 24.75" wide. Doing an LS1 swap should be no worse than dropping a 351W into a 65-66 Mustang as the 351W is 25" wide and those fit just fine. With the right headers, it ought to plop in place with room to spare.

1967-70 Mustangs would be no problem because they are designed to take an engine that is MUCH wider, and the 71-73 cars were designed to fit a BOSS 429, an LS1 might get lost in there.

Anyway, pics would be cool to see. Somebody post em for this guy!

Oops, I guess I didn't proofread before I hit submit last time. What I was getting at was that all 65-73 Mustangs will take an LS1 no problem, and you can even use V8 Mustang headers with LSx flanges, it's just that you'll probably need 351W swap headers when doing an LS in a 65-66. An added bonus is that a 4L60E and Ford AOD are similar, so that's no sweat. T56 will be a pain depending on the year though, some people can squeeze them in 1967+ cars with low enough motor mounts, but the tunnel usually has to be raised to get decent driveline angle.

Anyway, I can't wait to see the pics.

Thanks for the clairification. I was thinking 4l60e. Is there a year car that is easiest to work on/do a swap with in that range? I am not only thinking of engine and tranny but diskand power brakes etc.

This is getting me excited!

most of the suspension parts are total control, i am a dealer for there products. the rear as you can see is a 12 bolt cut down for the mustang with a total control rear kit. most of there stuff is bolt on. the rack was designed for a bigblock ford and allowed clearance for the gto pan. after alot of head scratching and e-mails and phone calls i think this is going to make a big splash. just think of the engine as a small block ford "god help me" and it will get a lot easier.

Yea the few that I have told I want to put an LS engine with matching tranny in an early mustang have either nearly had a hart attack or tried to hurt me....Still I know nothing about Ford motors so the idea of putting a cammed 5.3 or 6.0 in is very appealing to me.

You will likely get all kinds of responses but to me this is cool and you will have a much better engine than I will eventually do.

Is the suspension stuff expensive? can I ask how much?

price is competetive with other aftermarket highend stuff but much simpler to deal with. it is made by chris alstons chassis works. with that being said yes it was expensive but we wanted good stuff. i do not think we can talk prices on this site. pm me and i can tell you more.

i took the stang in for exhaust today. needless to say they were confused? i can't wait to hear this thing run. he assured me one the 02 sensors were in the pipes it would idle and drive. god i hope so!!! i can't stand this any longer. i wonder if you could just make up some short pipes and put the sensors in for test runs and such? has anybody done this?
