building a 1986 mazda rx7 with iron 5.3 and t56 pics inside
hello, i recently picked up a really nice 86 rx7 sport. supposedly the european imported gt. has the 5 lug wheels, 4 piston brakes and different suspension. but isnt the gtu.
anyways,
i have a 2001 5.3 truck engine that i will be installing into it, along with a t56 tranny.
i have already orded the hinson engine/tranny mounts along with thier willwood master cylinder kit.
ordered a griffin 27.5x19x3 radiator, will be getting a complete ls1 intake setup for the motor.
well, here are a few pics of the car.
here are a couple of it the day i got it. body is extremely straight. only a few door dings which is expected for a car its age.
now, under the hood was another story. this cars original engine had multiple oil leaks, the underhood looked like a tar pit. i didnt even take pics. was bad....
a half a gallon of Purple Power and a pressure washer and a lil elbo grease and it turned out great.
the passenger side fender has been scrubbed and the drivers side has just been soaked and power washed.
i decided, that with the caliber of this build and the end product that i am plannig on i wanted a nicer engine bay then that. so this is what i came up with.
not too bad, satin black bbq grill paint. very durable and heat resistant.
should look great with the future paint job. (ford sonic blue)
please add any comments

thanks. front clip is back on.
just waiting on parts to arrive so i can start working.
i have settled on a paint scheme for the engine. i will paint the block sonic blue, the heads black, the valve covers sonic blue and the intake sonic blue. the fuel rails will prob be silver. the water pump and alt bracket will prob be black.
give me your thoughts on this.

It is certainly a nice clean car. The GTU came later, like 90-91, the Sport model was an early car, basically Mazda called it a Sport model because it was lighter (no sunroof) but came with the 5 bolt suspension which gives you the bigger brakes and a LSD rear end. The rotary is just different, not really a pos. I've built over a hundred rotaries, for both street and race, and all are still running except for one of my own which I blew with 20lb boost from a supercharger. You can blow a LS motor too if your unkind to it. A friend's 3rd gen is running a 10.7 quarter with a 13B, and another friend is running a LS in a 2nd gen and can take FTD at the autocross', so it all can be made to work well.
