Default Truck DBW pedal modification ideas

Hey, guys I have a Truck DBW pedal out of a 04 Silverado and I was talking to guy on another forum that apparently chopped and welded his truck pedal for better fitment in his 240sx. I was wondering if anyone had any pics they could share of their modified pedal, so I can get an idea of how much to cut and where.

Default I need an answer too!

Same here, I pulled my stock gas pedal assembly out of my 76 camaro and it's quite a bit shorter than the 2004 5.3 DBW assembly.

It looks like I need to shorten the pedal somewhow, because it's huge to put in a muscle car.

I KNOW someone has modified thier DBW pedal to fit in thier old chevelle, camaro, nova, and so forth.

Please share some ideas or suggestions to making this work better in an old car,

Thanks in advance for someone taking the time to discuss this and not skipping over the thread if they have useful info.

I cut mine down and added the old pedal to it, and added some metal to mount it to the firewall, wasn't hard, but it did make it a little harder to push so I removed the little spring at the top of it, works fine now. The pics are dark, but they're all I've got.

ok..I modified my 2004 silverado pedal...here are the pics

Here's what I started with, as you can see the DBW pedal is quite a bit longer than what came stock in our cars.

After chopping off about 3-4 inches and re-bending the arm this is what I ended up with.

I wanted to use my factory pedal so I drilled the appropriate hole for the factory pivot bolt. Most of the people that modified these do away with the spring and pivot so the pedal is actually stationary.....I wanted mine to pivot like factory.

Final results! I painted the arm with low gloss black and installed a brand spanking new pedal. Truned out pretty good.

Some people complained about the pedal being hard to push in, which makes sense after taking some leverage off of it....I may change this spring out to something less stiff....we'll see once it's in the car.

That's almost identical to mine, except I left off the pivot on the pedal and mounted it solid to the arm.

Yeah I talked to you on the Corvette Forum about this before I did this

Just curious why you mounted it solid to the arm?

Ah, that's you...using 2 different names....I'm easily confused in my old age.
So are you building a vette, camaro, or both?

That's almost exactly how I did mine, and it pivots on the arm just like yours. The spring I removed from mine to make it easier to push is the small spring you can see in this pic. There's another spring inside the pedal that you can't change that's the really all you need.

It's a 76 Camaro, my vette has a carb on it.

Bringing back this old thread for a question.

How much travel is there on the non-adjustable gas pedals? I have an adjustable one that I am thinking about cutting the "adjustable" section off but it looks like the ones pictured have more pedal travel than the one I have. Mine is from a 2004 Tahoe 5.3 and between the base and the arm is just over 1/2 inch. To clarify, refer up to 67CamaroGuy's last picture: What is the distance between the base that mounts to firewall and the point on the underside of the arm where it starts to turn toward the driver.

I know the pedal in my Monte Carlo moves ALOT more than 1/2inch and just want to see if all these have the same travel. I can post pics of the adjustable pedal if need be.

I have a pedal assembly from a 2004 Avalanche that had the adjustable pedals and the actual pedal movement is just like ^^described. Gonna have to just wait and see what it's like driving the car!

99mustang have you already modded your pedal? I would like to see some pics for maybe different ideas. I was planning on hacking basically everything off and welding the stock arm, or maybe a bent up one, to the nub that I leave on the electronic assembly for a stock look. I just don't know what I will need to get the pedal close to stock location, have to measure tons and test fit a few times I'm sure.

No I haven't. I was pretty much planning on doing just what you said. There's not gonna be much left of the factory bracket in my case, the Mustang pedal is quite small and so is the space in which it mounts.
