Default Which speedometer will work?

I've read a lot of threads regarding the speedometer when changing to a ls1 engine and t-56 transmission. From what I understand you can get a sinus- or square-wave signal to the speedometer depending on which source you get it from.

I know there is a lot of speedometers that will fit my application but the prices it pretty high. I'm thinking about modifying an electric speedometer from a "regular" car that I can buy cheap. The car that I'm working on is a El Camino -69. Now to the question:

Do you guys know any cars that have a speedometer that will work with a ls1 or t-56?

My second car is a Volkswagen golf 3 with an electric speedometer, is it possible to make that speedometer work with my conversion? I wonder because I will be able to test with it pretty easy, but I don't wont to break anything.

Thanks

Doesn't anyone know some speedometers that might work with my setup?
