nope before i even thought of doing this project i did some figuring and 14.00 is wat i came up with for a stock 5.3 auto in the 2900lbs s10 and after running the truck several times the only way im gonna go faster is to add more power jetting is spot on timing is where it wants to be no spinning its as good as it is gonna get with this setup.
now i had trans problems this weekend while racing street class in Grand Bend so ive got some tricks up my sleeve when i pull the trans out i might as well yank the motor too and mess with it. ill post this weekends timeslips after i run on friday night maybe 13s

5.3s aren't down much in power from the 5.7 LS1, which has run 12.9 stock many times in a 3400lb f-body. I would expect much faster in a 2900lb S-10 also. My LT1 98 S-10 ran 12.89 with a stock 140k mile LT1 and then 12.46 with a small comp cam, which probably put the power equal to an LS1. A local guy has an S10 here with a junkyard 5.3 and a decent cam ONLY and it runs 11.7. The truck weighs right at 3000, it was weighed yesterday.

Here is a rundown of the ones I have done.
1997 ext. cab @3450lbs race weight. L99 5.3l bone stock shortie headers, 13.3@103.5
1998 reg cab 6 sp. 3350lbs race weight. Alum. 5.3l with ls6 cam and intake stock manifolds. 13.00@108.xx
2003 2wd 2dr blazer, 3850lbs race weight. Iron 5.3l bone stock with ls1 car intake and camaro manifolds. 13.7@99.
I think that is it off the top of my head. Maybe you have a bad DA that you are running in too. We race in with a 2000ft DA most of the time.
BTW, I tuned all three of these too. I just got done with a 2003 ext. cab cam only 5.3l I will give that a shot this Friday with the 205/65's on it.

There have been a handful of dynos between 5.7 and 5.3 gen III engines and when everything is equal (car intake, etc) the difference in power is usually minimal, around 15-20 horse. This truck has a carb'd intake which should flow similiar to an LS1/ LS6 intake, headers and I would assume free flowing exhaust and minimal accessories/ emissions. I have swapped in more than enough 5.3s and when setup right they make very similiar power to a 5.7

I think it should be a little faster. What controller are you using? What's the timing set at? What tires and are there any traction bars, gearing, etc?
I ran my 2900 lb Monza with a 98 F-body LS1 completely stock and went 12.30's at 108. I never had it dynoed.
Good luck!

whoa i didnt expect this much feed back guys thanks but some of the comments ive read are a little far fetched like low 13s from a ext cab s10 with stock 5.3 come on didnt happen and who ever thinks i dont know how to tune a carb or set timing dont you worry about it the egt is right at 1350degrees my 60 ft times are 1.9 with ET streets not spinning at all it just hooks and goes 3000 stall holding tires with brake @ 2800 shifting at 6800
3.73 gears Sanderson Shorties full exhaust no cats magnaflow 18" muffler
TH350 transmission w shift kit this truck is running exactly what it should but im not stopping here i built this project to see the difference every bolt on part is going to give me thanks again for the feed back

I really wasn't questioning your tuning skills but just wanted to know the other info. It's a great starting point for you to really step it up. I loved to see a vid if you have one.
