LS1 Power Steering Delete for Hot Rod Question
I'm going to install a 2001 LS1 Trans Am in a 33 Ford Tudor Sedan that has a manual rack and pinion steering. Question....can I modify the stock power steering unit to operate without being attached to a power steering rack or is there an aftermarket set up that will work with the stock serpentine set up? Please advise and thanks in advance for your input!

PS pump delete
All you need is another Idler pulley like the tensioner to elim the power steer pump. This pulley will replace the smooth Idler that the belt rides on after the Alt before it goes under the PS pump pulley. You'll have to put a spacer behind the bearing about 4mm thick.
Your belt will come off the crank pulley, over under the Alt. pulley, over the new Idler then under the W pump pulley over to the tensioner.
You'll also need a belt approx 23 inches shorter.
