Default Chevy Vega 5.3

Vega owners...........Im considering a 5.3 swap for a motorless 72 I just picked up.
Anyone know if the stock exhaust manifolds will fit without interference?

Thanks for any help

Truck manifolds? Don't know, I have only seen pic's of them, they almost look like they might fit (or not). Just try it out and see.
The early stamped F-body manifolds will work if you cut off that large triangle flange and use a smaller flange. I have the later cast F-body manifolds, but those damned large flanges are in the way. I suppose F-body shorty headers may fit, but I guess they do not flow any better then the manifolds. So I do not know what to do.
Probably the best forum for Vega info is at H-body.org

ifthe truck manifolds fit, then u can use the shorty truck headers and u will b able to modify them any if need.
cant really do much to cast iron manifolds.

My 72 is a little more extreme but I smile every time I see a Vega going for the LS touch.

Yeah, Im pretty stoked. I haven't picked that car up yet, but tonight Im driving through a local neighborhood, and see this car on the side of a house. I knock on the door and inquire if its for sale, and owner tells me...why yes it is. Apparently it was listed on ebay recently and sold for $1300 or $1500 and the buyer never completed the transaction. I asked what he would take and he said $1200. I didn't even haggle on price. 1-75yr old owner, always an arizona car, no rust, seat upholstery is shot. but body is straight. He added a pontiac 5sp some years ago, and painted it red....was green, other than that all original, and drives great.
BTW.....your threads have inspired me to do an LS swap.

I thought the truck manifolds would pretty much only fit trucks cuz they go back before they go down. The F body ones go down then point back a bit. Truck ones go for cheap usually I think. I was gonna try the truck ones in my 87 442 with a 4.8 but I had to use F body ones, there is NO way without completely hacking the car that the truck ones would have worked.

Anyone have a complete small block chevy and a 5.3 to compare the overall width of exhaust mani's bolted up?

I had a vega wagon years ago with a 231 buick v6 with stock exhaust manifolds and it fit fine, but thats a smaller motor

I have a Monza and I used '98 Camaro manifolds with the large three bolt flange cut down to a standard 2.5" header reducer. Works very well.

Looks like you had to modify the steering shaft

That is for the rack and pinion. The stock steering will clear the manifold with a smaller U-joint at the box.

here is my start on a 72 ls build up, I kept the stock pan, I am also going with a rack of some kind? I think my fbody exhaust would have worked if you cut and turned the drivers side exit mounting flange? they are bigger for some reason?
