LS Coolant Temp Adaptor any good?
Wanted to get some input from those that have already used an adaptor for thier coolant temp sender on the passenger head.
Just seems like it may give a false reading extending it out.
But if it works would be better than having to drill and tap the head..
Any input would be appreciated.

if your just using it to run the stock gauge in the car then its fine, i have one running an autometer and the gauge reads just fine.
are you keeping the stock ls sender for the pcm? and then running one in the passenger head for the gauge? If yes, then the adaptor will be fine. factory GM gauges are off anyway, much less one thats 20+ years old.

I have a stock S10 on on pass side and the stock LS1 on the driver head....they read about 20* difference between the 2...so it is off a little cause its only catching coolant though one side of the engine...but its not WAY off

I'm using the equis adapter with a an electric auto meter gauge. Temp seems to be correct, stays at 185*. I have mine in the passenger rear head. I have not had any other gauge to verify the temp, but I havn't had any problems with temp so if it aint broke........
I had an auto meter mechanical gauge, but the "probe" portion was to large to fit in the adapter.

After purchasing the stock 86 Monte SS Temp sender, I see now that my search has been for nothing..
The stock 86 SS monte sender has 3/8 NPT threads..
If I would have taken a closer look at John Bzdels LS1 install I would have already known this..
The one for Auto Meter says its for 96 and above "short sweep" electric water guage..
Im assuming the term means the resistance or cycle high to low?
Anyway, unless someone comes up with a sender thats compatible to the stock for an 86 SS monte thats has 1/8 or 1/4 npt threads.. Im drilling and taping..

another location to consider is the larger 16mm threaded plug above the starter. im sure u can find a 16mm->3/8 adapter. other ppl have used the location for gauges with success.

A brass sending unit that was made to mount on a cylinder head would see more heat then on a hose..
Basically a sender is just a thermister thats paired with the guage to read a certain temperature based on resistance\temperature of the sender..and if that temperature varies, my guage will be off..
I did some digging and found the values to check my gauge at certain resistances\temps and surprisingly it was pretty accurate.
I'm drilling and taping.. Its not really a big deal.. I was just trying to save some effort..

Found this for someone that might want to try using on thier stock gauge..
http://www.autometer.com/cat_accesso...il.aspx?vid=30
Supposed to be for pre-95 gauges
Not sure if it would work... Still have to get around the problem with the deapth of the sender with respect to the metric to npt adaptor
from the description: This sender only works on pre-1995 gauges with a distinctive black mask on bottom of lens. (Closest smile to a "black mask" next dude was second lol)
Regarding "black mask" at the bottom...Probably talking about autometer style but odd when I plug in my application in a vendor for autometer... comes up with the same sender so dunno for sure..

I have a 1/2-14 NPT sender which makes it very difficult to install in my block, has anyone used the Street and Performance adapters?
If so any pics and how much did it set you back?
My other alternative is getting a 1/2-14 tap and open the 12mm hole on the backside of the pasenger head.
