Default LS1 swap into 96 3.8

I was wondering if anyone on here has done an LS1 swap into a 93-97 car. The car I currently have is a 96 3.8v6. Late spring I plan on buying a salvage donor car so that I'll have all the necessary parts. Just wanted to know of any problems you ran into and how you overcame them. I tried searching but no luck, I'm not really good with the search. Please don't try to discourage, mind is already made up. I'm not trying to sound like a dick but to many people saying its a waste of time/money. The thing that has me the most concerned is the wiring. Thanks. If I have missed something please chime in.

Things I know that need replacing:
-Complete Engine w/ harness and PCM
-K-member (will be dropped out bottom of donor car with engine and trans connected)
-Trans(6spd)
-clutch
-clutch hydraulics maybe? (will the ones from the V6 work? They are brand new)
-fuel lines
-fuel pump
-radiator
-radiator hoses
-throttle cable
-front springs (already did rears)
-exhaust
-want to do gauge cluster (not sure on wiring for it since its digital mileage)
-Upgrading to the LS1 brakes (want to)
-Rear drum to disc (want to)

just send your harness in for a rewire, that would be the easiest to do. speartech, or someone else.

I remember reading awhile back about a guy who did that and it cost 500 bucks. Other guys did it themselves so I was wondering if anyone had info on that.

Not very much..like 2 wires. The Pinout Diagrams show both V6 and LT1..there isn't much of a difference.

Thanks, but I am going to pick up a whole car so it will already have it. The swap is about 5-6 months away, but I will post pics with the build. Thanks all for the information.

im doing the swap on 1995 Trans am, you will need to replace the rack and pinion. also you need the ls1 style steering shaft.

Agreed! 93-97 LT1 & 93-02 V6 f-bodies use the same steering rack. The angle of the steering shaft differs from the LS1 steering racks. When you get one, make sure it's for an LS1 f-body. Same goes for the steering linkage. Otherwise, you'll have the steering running right through where the exhaust should be on the driver's-side.

I gave it a shot with the LT1/V6 steering rack mounted on an LS1 K-Member & LS1 Steering linkage. Not only was the linkage in the way of the exhaust, it also hit the driver's side engine mount perch.

Ya its around that price but if u can do it urself, then do it. I just don't know wireing so i had mine sent off. Good luck with the build!!! I am having a lot of fun with my build. Been running now for couple months and i think that it was money well spent. If people say otherwise, all i have to say to them is that i still have the car i went to high school with and got my first virgin in the back seat! Hahaha. have fun man and good luck!
