If I was keeping the motor EFI and using a factory LS PCM then I would probably keep the LS1 alt.

If it were carb and I had the LS1 alt and the brackets fit I would use it. If you have the ford alt you could run it.

In reality there is no right answer. The LS1 doesn`t care if it spins a GM or ford alt, and the battery doesn`t care whose alt charges it. Both the GM LS1 alt and the ford 3G are good designs, the 3G does have more aftermarket support though.

Theres nothing wrong with running the 4g then. Just turn the alt circuit codes off in the PCM so that you don`t get a check engine light.

I think I will be keeping the Ford unit in my 01 MUSTANG and just fabbing some brackets. I will be using the Ford unit because it's there and I want to keep the budget as low as possible.
