You can use the stock crossmember. You don't want the rear of the trans any lower than it sits on the stock crossmember or you might have pinion angle (vibration) problems.

My stock crossmember is too short. Do I have to cut the tab off and mod up a new tab to make it fit ? Kevin do you have any pics on your crossmember ?

You mean it sits too far back? You can bolt the crossmember to the transmission mount and drill new holes in the frame. You may only have to drill one.

Oh sounds like you need to find a good used crossmember. Are you a member of Team Chevelle? www.chevelles.com

If you're using the stock crossmember i'm assuming you already did tunnel mods? I used my stock crossmember but definitely had to do tunnel mods.

in terms of tunnel it depends how far back into the firewall you set the engine. you're bringing up fun memories of when i was trying to balance the tolerances between the firewall, steering box, crossmember, pinion angle, and trans tunnel.

fun times... NOT!

I use S & P mod F body pan and it cant go any further. It's only 1/8 off the crossmember.
