Fuel Pump Question For 84 Buick Regal
Just some background. I’m installing a 2005 LQ4 into a 84 Regal. When the fuel pump question came up I read that you needed to use a AC Delco EP241.(S&P website) But I've also heard that this pump will be working itself to death since it was designed to work with TPI & MPI and should only be used in this application. So Ive been looking into alternatives. I have found out that the EP381’s were manufactured with a new thin magnet design which yielded a lot higher torque than that of the EP241’s. They were specifically designed to work on Vortec & LS1 style engines. Also the current draw on the EP380 would be significantly less than the EP241, less current + less heat=longer life. Can I use a EP381 on my sending unit??? I can buy one around here for like $50. Are there other budget alternative fuel pumps out there?
EP241 Flow= 40 gph & PSI = 65-75
EP381 Flow = 50-60 GPH & PSI = 80-90
These pressure readings are right on the head of the pump, Ratings are from airtex.
