Default 1968 stepside with 2007 5.3L starting system wiring???

I have been building a 68 stepside with a 2007 5.3L/4L60 setup for to long now..LOL. I was just finishing up the wiring, I though, and now I am unsure of the starting. A little brian storm--- the PCM enables the starter when it sees everything is good. The problem I am facing is the PCM won't see the ign. input because I am running the 68 ign. switch and the 2007 ign switch feeds into the BCM and then the BCM relays the message through GMLAN high speed network. Now if I just feed the starter enable circuit from ign switch will it start.. I know I will need to dissable Passlock and other stuff, I have EFI Live to do that, but at this time I am just worried about the wiring..

Thanx for you input guys..

Use the original starter wire on the truck. The PCM doesn't need to be hooked to the starter in any way. Just make sure you have VATS/Passlock completly turned off and you should be good to go.

So, if everything has its ignition power and the starter is engaged it should start. Giving the fact that al Passlock crap is dissabled.

You need battery power, ignition power, fuel and good grounds.

Ok, all wired and in.... Wired the starter relay right off of the ign. switch. Truck turns over, but will not start... Is anybody willing to teach a newbie how to turn it off with EFI Live....

Even with VATS enabled the engine should start and run for 5 sec or less. My experience is about 1-2 seconds. If you aren't even getting an "I'm trying to fire cough" you need to make sure all your sensors are plugged in (I missed the crank sensor once) and all the proper wires have power while cranking. Check your codes, check for fuel pressure (58 - 60 PSI at the rail) check all your sensors - especially crank and cam, and check your grounds.

Hope this helps.

checked power and ground to pcm and both are good. Checked power and ground again to coil and it is good. Also have good power to injector while cranking. Something is telling the PCM not to fire........ There has got to be more to this operating system with passlock then just turning it off with EFI Live....

I have the same problem. I'm running a 2007 5.3L L59 vortec engine and I think I've got everything wired up correctly. There's a little fuel that sprays immediately when I turn the key to crank, but it only happens once and after that, the fuel injectors will not turn on. It's like something is telling the injectors not to open. I've got 58psi at the fuel rail and I'm running pretty much all of the emissions systems stuff.

It seems like most of the people here are talking about turning off VATS. But, then I'm pretty sure their engines are older models (or engines flashed with older PCM configurations). I'd like to hear if someone that has worked with a 2007 or newer engine has been able to figure this out.

I don't have experience with the newer e67/38 pcm's yet but do a little lurking since I'm sure I'll swap one in the future...
Might want to check out this thread over on efilive's forum

vegasrobbi, harascho and pswired all have working swaps so if you search by their usernames you'll probably find what you're looking for. make sure to post up your results here...help others out in the future (like me )

Make sure you have power to the pcm while the engine is cranking. I have seen more than one person hook the power to a connection that won't be hot when the switch goes into the start position.

Yep make sure you have power not just in start position but while cranking.
