Exclamation ..... Buy 6.0L or LS1 engine for Blazer K5???..................

I am going to do swap for my blazer but, I am confusing which engine to choose?
The car will be daily driver, sand, mud, some street race for fun.
Which engine should I take?

5K will get you a decent ls1 setup maybe around 450ish hp with a stock bottom end and full bolt-ons. i want to do a 6.0 set up in my camaro but need arond 10k for a decent set up so if that help any. i just did a heads cam top end kit with full bolt ons and i have 150 shot of juice. havent sprayed yet and it needs to be tuned but im hoping for 500+ with the juice. HOPEFULLY

Will the LS1 hold power like 6.0? And will LS1 carry the Blazer weight around 6000lb without any problems? Will be the LS1 torque good for Blazer compare to 6.0?

i think it should hadel it just fine but bigger cubes is more power. i just threw together a 383 stroker thats about the same HP as my ls1 for my 77 chevy truck & thats about the same weight as ur app. i would of put a ls1 in but its to much work & i have 2much in to it. $18k in toa $4k truck. money is going to be ur biggest thing u can buy a used ls1 for $1300 a put full boltons & a tune & ur going 2burn most of that $5k up. save some $ for gears (4:10s) & trans also

There's not going to be a really big difference between the two, so it's not like you're going to make a "wrong" decision with either one. Considering the fact that it's going into a K5, I'd lean toward the 6.0. You should be able to buy one for considerably less than a comparable LS1, you shouldn't have to switch away from the truck accessories (which will leave you more money for the rest of the swap stuff needed), & mod for mod, the extra 18 cubes or so will give you just a little bit more torque.

Either way, you'll probably enjoy it when it's done...

u will add some weight to the blazer since 6.0 is cast & ls1 is aluminum (about 40 or 60lbs heaver i belive) but as far as power its not a big diff

What year K5? Keeping it 4WD? What transfer case do you plan on using?

Its 4WD
700r4 now and after swap will be used.
Does the iron block means it will hold load and last more than the aluminum and better in mud and some water cross?

If you truely want torque, do an 8.1, doing it in a K5 should give you plenty of room

I've got maybe $5k in my complete Engine..and it's a stroker. What are you looking at for $10k?

It runs hotter and isn't as durable..it will cool down quicker, that's about the only upside.

There's an interesting thread on coloradok5.com on whether to swap a 6.0L or 8.1L into a K5 and keep it California smog legal. Here is the link:

http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=266215

I put a link to this exact and a couple others from this site on the very last page of the thread as well so they are cross referenced.
