Default from truck water pump to car pump

in a chevelle. i have a truck water pump and truck accessories. i heard the ls3 pump is good, but i wanted to know if the placement of the upper hose is going to interfere with the idler pulley or anything else. it looks like it would fit better with the placement of my radiator hose, but i just wanted to make sure it fits with the truck accessories.

The corvette, LS1 (fbody), LS2, LS3 pumps have a shorter water pump pulley spacing for their accessories. All the truck accessories have spacing that wont work with the car water pumps.
You can however swap a truck pulley onto an LS1 pump (pic below).
There are also spacers that move the LS1 pumps to the truck accessory spacing, but I have not seen them lately.
Aother option could be the L92 water pump, spacing is correct but the top hose exits at a 45 degree angle.

any pictures of the l92 pump? i think i might have that pump already. the engine i have is an LY6.

is the ls1 pump any shittyer than the ls2 ls3 pumps as far as cooling capacity is concerned?

Try a search here, I know I've seen photos before.
Pumps outlets:
truck; top, strait up with about a 30 degree bend forward and to passenger side.
ls1,2; front, in pic
L92; top at 45 degree to passenger side
LS3 VVT (L99?), LS9 front, like ls1, but outlet is on drivers side.

Not sure about capacity, mine works fine.

I know the OEM and all the standard auto parts replacement LS1 and truck pumps I've seen use the same shaft dimensions. Dont know about aftermarket, or what makes that one higher capacity. I would have doubts on "increased capacity" pump claims. What does that mean, bigger pump, more vanes, smaller pulley..... Just guessing there are greater limits on cooling capacity in other areas, ie radiator capacity, heat exchange rate, flow rate...

the rest of my cooling system is fine for what im doing. 2 rows of 1 inch aluminum tubes. taurus 2 speed electric fan. i have no idea how these stock pumps cool these engines. i have nothing to gauge how it will cool a 650hp engine.

Well unless you'll be racing long distances with it, the pump doesn't have to cool 600hp very long. I have not heard of and cooling problems with LS pumps/motors. I think it's fair to say most overheating problems seem to be related to ambient temp, city/ stop & go driving, air flow related.
I had to make several mods to my pump so I found a reman LS1 pump on ebay for under $100, swapped pullets, made mods and it works fine. If you're going to modify a pump, you might want to start on a cheap one, see how that works.
Since the pump has mods, and you never know when/where one will fail, I bought a spare, made all the same mods and leave it in my jack compartment.
