Default LS1 Swap into 1988 Mustang

I recently bought a 1988 Mustang. I wanted to do a LS1 swap and was wondering if anyone can help with the parts I need to do this. $5,000 budget.

I've been looking around but I can't find a combo with low miles, wiring harness, and ECU.

well you might be able to score a 5.3l and a trans for less than a grand. But ls1's can be pricey. and its the small stuff that adds up, like misc. hardware stuff like that. but i think its doable.

Yea same here got alot more than 5k in mine. I was thinking the same thing when I started but I got about 9 or 10K in mine right now and still like the tranny, fuel system, wheels and other small stuff. It adds up quick but I think it will be worth it when Im done.

Good news guys! I just purchased an LS1 and tranny with 25,000 miles and complete wire harness and ECU for $3,000! Nothing wrong with it. Tested the motor before we pulled it. Came out of a 2000 Camaro. 243 heads and LS6 intake.

another option is a C4 trans. Cheaper DS and stock crossmember.

JW sells the bell and you need a 1/2 and 1/2 converter.

are you saying it will take 10k to put together an LS swap into a foxbody for just the engine alone? or that you have spent $6500 on your entire project (suspension, engine, trans, etc)?

You made out like a bandit on that stuff. Will the truck accessories fit under the Fox hood? I know they wont clear the LS1 intake

Neither are much of a problem with the complete 00 dropout

I have all the parts for my swap except for some of the little stuff like fluids, belt, hoses, xpipe and rest and tail pipes. Im around 5k in mine and i figure i may spend another 1000 when finished. I already included my aje k member which was 1k and ls6 heads, cam, intake, 8k mile 4l60e and 3500 stall. 32k ls1 shortblock w/ oil pan covers everything and still right under 5k. It can be done just depends on how much you want, and how good of deals you find. They are out there.
