Default What transmssion did u choose for ur lsx build and why?

I'm finally down the getting the transmission for my 5.3swap. Which will be going in an 89s10.My truck was an automatic but standard could be an option. I'm looking to buy a transmission/stall this weekend but needed some if ur guys input. It will be a daily driver for me working 30 miles Away from home so would like a low rpms at 70mph transmission and realiable enough to hold a 400hp engine. Please after reading this leave ur input so that I can make a decision. I'm not expert when it comes to transmissions that's why I'm askin for ur guys help

If you have EFI then I would stick with an electronic trans too...4L60E or 4L65E.
I went with a carb and a 200-4R trans from here... http://www.extremeautomatics.com/tra...ons/2004r.html
Closer gear ratios and a slightly better OD ratio make it better than a 700R4. When built correctly, the 200 is stronger than the 700. From some of the bad experiences I have read and heard, I would not get one of these tranny's (200 or 700) from an Average Joe tranny shop.

4l60e with a 3600 vig. held 460 hp. like it because you can drive down the road and it still lock up even with that big of a stall.

4L65E. I wanted OD and the steeper 1st gear. I hope I don't regret it.

TH400 for me since it was an inexpensive option, and has plenty of strength for track abuse.

I'd Go T-56. Will easily hold that power, and my camaro turns about 1700 rpms at 80 mph with 3.42 rear gears.

...or the poor like me. Autos are MUCH more common and thus cheaper to source.

I got a 4l60e as it was cheaper and I already had an auto car. Throwing in a T-56 would have cost me more than $2000 extra and this is a budget build. Not happy about having an auto but you gotta do with what you can afford.

Agree! I have a t56 for my project. Spent more on the trans than the motor though.

What's your current rear end ratio, and are you willing to change it?

Im doing a swap into my daily driver- 68 El Camino with a pumped up LQ4, and i decided to go with a 4L80E. I went with a 3000 stall locking converter. The shops i talked to said that was about as high of a stall as I should go with for something with a good transcooler that will be driven 30ish miles everyday.

I chose 3.50 gears for the back. With a 26" tall tire, that should put me at about 2400 rpm at 70mph. I would've chosen a lower ratio, but im hoping to vist the track on more than a few occasions.

Good Luck!

^^Lol..maybe from 0mph..60mph up is a different story with the T56..

That and it's always good to have a big motor with the Manual..just to chase down that Auto guy..

Notice he said "chase down that Auto guy"....so that must mean that he (manual transmission) is BEHIND the auto guy because he is losing the race.
Guess there is no shame in being inept.

Go with the Auto! 4L60e. Too much money will be sunk into converting your truck into a manual. Not worth the hassle! Get the 4l60 built right and you wont need to worry about it holding up.
