Default LQ4 and head milling

I have an 03 LQ4 and was going to put a TR Cam with 6.00 lift and was wondering if I could mill the heads anymore to get compression up. If so, how much and would it be worht it?

I think it's somewhat common to use the 5.3 heads (706 casting) as a low budget way to boost compression on the LQ4.

Here's one thread discussing doing so.

Like that other thread says, a set of 243 heads are a better way to go. Smaller chamber, same flow (if not just a BIT better). I picked up a set of ported 243s milled to 63cc for $650. That thread says you can get stockers for $550, but I've seen plenty for $200-$300. After selling your 317s for $100, you'll be at about the same cost as getting them milled, but with no PtV loss from the milling.

Just sayin'... I just swapped from a Ms4 and 243's to un-milled 317's and a custom ground (blower spec) cam. There is very little difference s.o.t.p. difference..actually feals stronger in the mid range and pulls hard to the redline. (with no boost yet...)

I'd just pick a head and do a custom grind cam for your specific set-up...

good luck!
