oil pan question...yes I've read the stickys
I've been reading for a few days now, and would like to get your guys opinion. I've kinda hit a wall in my swap and need to know what to do. I have a 02 ls from a vette, it has the "batwing" oil pan....which I can make work, but it will be more difficult. Or I could swap to a f-body pan, it will make things a lot easier for me. (k member wise) The problem is, I plan on doing a lot of road racing and drifting with the car and worrie about oil starvation. I will be running a accusump system, cause I don't have the cash for a dry sump system which I know is better. Would the vette batwing pan be a safer choice than the f-baody pan for my application? Any info would be great. Thanks.

My first reaction is that there is enough baffeling (sp?) in these pans that you'd probably be ok. I've looked at the F body pan, have two GTO pans, and bought a H3 pan. All have more sheetmetal in them to control the oil then any previous factory pan, including the old vette "trap door" pans.
As far as the bat wing goes, and I haven't seen the inside of it, though I know what the outside looks like (note my name), I think it's that shape for ground clearance and to get the qty of oil in it. It still has a fixed pickup tube, and the oil will still move away from down in a long corner.
my two cents...

I thought I read somewhere yesterday that it has one at each side..? I can't find it though. I'm going to pull it off this week and see whats in there... Just don't want to spend the money on another pan if this one is better...

I put one on my 6.0 in my 68 vette for the ground clearance. It has the baffles around the sump that look as though they would hold the oil in well. And GM designed a $800 oil pan that way for a reason. That being said, I've heard oil control wasn't as good as expected in a couple threads here. And there are quite a few used winged pans available a lot cheaper than the other used vette or f body pans. I got mine for $100, pickup included.

What about just installing an updated baffle/trap door system in a factory LS1 pan? That's had great results and can be had from sponsors on here. Check the New Products thread.
