Default S10 wiring

Hey guys, i have a 98 s10 that im looking to put an LS1 into. I was wondering what the best wiring harness to use would be. I was looking at the Perfect Hi RPM system from Painless Performance. It comes with the harness, camshaft, and the computer. It seemed like a pretty good deal to me. Also i heard the s10 computer could work with an LS1.. is this true?

Your 98 PCM will not work with it, only the 2001 and newer ones do, with 2001 and 2002 being the best to use. Depending on what motor you're installing a truch harness might be your best choice, since it can be made to work with your factory fusebox

??

I have been reading about s10 swaps for years and I have never heard of someone using a stock computer to run an LS motor. The older vortec motors yes, but not an LSx of any kind.

You learn something new every day, use the knowledge in good health, and to say money when possible.
A siverado uses the same PCM as a S10 or Astro Van for a 4.3, it also uses the same PCM for the Gen3 motor, so why couldn't you use the S10 PCM for the Gen3 motor, since the only differance is the OS, which is changable

This site should answer any questions you have about the swap.

That post was made in 2005... tell them to update the thread, cause a lot of that info is old and incorrect.

Look here, it's a little more recent:

new info is always welcome! just curious, have you actually done this? I just cant believe I never ran across this before. I just wonder if the tuning and adapting the old harness comp/ to the new motor is easier than using a new harness/ comp? sounds interesting for sure though.

I don't use the harness, just the PCM, but there are guys out there that have adapted the harnesses over.

The PCM will swap if its the right year, Ive have two 4.3 PCMs on my swaps. I prefer them because you can grab them for $30-50 compared to the $100-120 on V8 PCMs. You have to tune the PCM either way so who cares what it originally came with

4.3 harnesses can be adapted from most any year. A handful of connectors will need to replaced or added and the whole thing reworked. Its a big job
