Default Clearance prob with F-body water pump

I have an 07 5.3. The F-body water pump is hitting the timing cover, preventing it from going all the way back. I would say it needs to go back another 1/8 inch, with the gaskets in place. I could make some spacers to fill the void, but I was wondering if anyone else had this problem with the F-body water pump on the truck blocks.

Do you have the dod setup? Also, are you using the paper gaskets?

I don't know what the DOD setup is. It's a stock F-body pump and I'm using the stock 5.3 aluminum gaskets with the cast in o-rings

What did the engine come out of? Or better yet, use the VIN and decode it. You need to know if you have VVT or DOD.

2007 Tahoe. As far as I know, it doesn't have VVT. The timing cover had only one sensor in it.

According to this, your engine has Active Fuel Management (aka Displacement On Demand) with Flex Fuel (e85) capability. I thought those engines used a different (deeper) timing cover due to the cylinder deactivation bits. I'm not sure so don't count this with info from your favorite religion's owner's manual, it could be my mal-adjusted brain incorrectly filing something. I have never researched those engines beyond what I have stumbled across looking for other information, I'm merely tossing out ideas. I typically stay in the 2000 - 2004 range for this very reason.

Hope this helps.

It sounds like you'll want to double-check the depth of the crank pulley as well...

Are there any numbers on the engine itself that would identify if it has DOD or VVT?
