Default LSx accesorries fit Vortec

I though I read somewhere (can't find it now) that the accessorries (Alt, P/S) for an F-body, Y-body, CTS-V, GTO, etc, will not bolt up to the Vortec block. I want to use a 4.8 or 5.3 for my swap but would like to use f-body accesorries. Is it just the iron block Vortec's, all Vortecs, or no Vortec's?

They'll fit. The only thing you'll have to do is drill and tap a boss on the iron block for the low mounted f body alternator bracket.

The 'car' stuff will bolt onto the 'truck' engines. The only real difference is the truck engines dont have a bolt hole boss drilled and tapped for a bolt to go into where on Fbody cars the one alternator bracket bolt goes into. Supposedly you dont NEED it, but Ive never tried it.

These guys are right, and think this only applies to the f-body accessories. I bought a 6.0 lq4 thinking only the iron 5.3's were missing this hole. Wrong..... I need to drill and tap this hole too......

I wouldnt suggest running without the tapped hole. The iron blocks are actually down two bosses for the alt bracket out of 3 total. One has no material whatso ever, the other needs to be drilled out

I wouldnt mount an alt on one bolt

Hey, thanks for the extra info, I was unaware of the 'other' bolt. Good stuff.

well, there is one more bolt on the rear of the alternator. my biggest concern would be the serpentine belt. there is an idler on the bracket as well that i imagine wouldn't be able to do its job properly if that bracket wasn't solidly mounted.

A boss for the rear brace is present on the iron blocks. I figured it was a given

11/32" drill

M10.1.5mm thread

Try to find a drill longer than the alt bracket is thick. Use the bracket as a guide. You absolutely DONT want this hole to be crooked. Punch the drill all the way through the boss and tap as deep as you can get without risking a broken tap

For Metric threads. the tap drill size is: subtract the pitch from the basic size, and you have the tap drill size. Examples:

M10x1.5, use 8.5mm tap drill
M6x1, use 5mm tap drill

If you are drilling and tapping by hand (hand drill & hand tap), use a drill a little smaller than the usual tap drill size, as drilling by hand usually produces an over size hole. For example, I would use an 8.25mm drill for an M10x1.5.
