Default chevelle oil pan?

ok i am putting a ls1 and a t56 in a 69 elcamino. i need to decide what oil pan to use. i like the looks of the lhx and the autokraft pans. and theres the cts-v pan. the car will be low so i need ground clearance and the roads suck up here (AK). i will do some auto-x with the car so oil control is a big problem also.

on a side note are there any fuel rails that are passanger side feed that fit the ls1?

Thanks

Default Chevelle Oil Pan

I'm looking to use the Autokraft pan. I have a 70 Chevelle w/T56 and am worried about the ground clearance as well. The only issue with the S&P pans is you must have a core of the pan you're purchasing. Otherwise you have to pay a rather expensive core charge.

As for the fuel rails I just ordered some rear exit fuel lines for my 5.3L from S&P. They make them to use the factory GM connector and run them to the passenger side frame. UNFORTUNATELY I ordered them and a few other parts from S&P at least 2 weeks ago and haven't been charged or received anything yet. I'll be calling tomorrow to get an update.

I just received my AutoKraft pan and it's a very nice piece that is made specifically for our old cars so it's a no-brainer.

I also used the S&P modified pan. The only autocraft pan I have seen installed on an abody is B-mans 64 pony. His steering knuckles hit the front corners of the pan. That is my main concern with all of the after market pans I have seen for the A-bodies. The front is thicker than the F-body pan and the front corners are not dimpled to clear the steering knuckles like the f-body pan has. In my case the pan sits about 1.5 inches off the cross frame and the steering links darn near hit the pan. The dimples are all that allow clearance at full lock.

I have a 71 El Camino and I used the Autokraft pan. It's really close to hitting the steering knuckles, but it clears.

I also used the modified f body from S&P, I also used a girdle fitting to hold the pickup tube in with 2 bolts instead of 1 ( by the oil pump ).did you look at the Canton pan ? looks to have good clearence up front ,you can flip the fuel rails . JOHN

I am using an CTS-V for the past 4+ years.. if I was going to do it again and wanted to keep a cast pan, I would use the LHx, which I now have one for my 71 Nova that I am doing the swap on soon. If I was concerned about weight, I would then use the Autokraft. I did voite Autokraft for you, as you said you were going to be Autocrossing with it. The LHx pan states that they don't recommend racing with there pan. I have had no problem with running at the Good Guys autocross events with the CTS-V pan.

As far as the fuel railing feeding from the right side. just flip the rail 180 deg.. I have done this and no problems.

Check my Cardomain project by following the link in my sig.

Good luck and keep them posts coming.

Yeah.. me and Stealth started work about the same time and shared much information together on the two builds..

I did vote Autokraft because of what you said you were going to do. you have to weight out what your requirement are before you get your answer.. there is alway many way to get the point you need. But some are just better suited once you have your requirement and goals up front.

If you have any question .. go ahead and ask them.. more than glad to help out.. keep th post coming..

I used the Kevco Pan as I was concerned with tie rod clearance on the Autokraft. Engine sits low using Edelbrock plates, but no interference with the tie rods. Also, the pan is higher than the crossmember so no ground clearance issues. Only down side is a remote filter must be used and I had no idea what a pain in the *** that would be, not to mention the extra cost of hose and fittings.

Not driving yet, but hopefully in the next couple weeks.

I used the Autokraft pan and Edelbrock motor mounts in my '72 Chevelle 'vert. I shimmed the motor about 1/2" on the drivers side and 3/8" on the pass side (some probably related to frame sag) and there is no steering conflict. The pan clearance is good; it doesn't hang below the pan.

Does the pan have any baffling for oil control? Autokraft/Sommers has trap doors for oil control under cornering.
